Giants cut K Jude McAtamney

It looks like the Jets are going to have a new starting quarterback against the Bengals in Week 8.

Head coach Aaron Glenn declined to name a starter after replacing Justin Fields with Tyrod Taylor for the second half of their loss to the Panthers and he said he was still considering the choice on Monday, but Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports that the team is “moving toward” making Taylor the starter.

The story went on to say Glenn will speak to reporters on Wednesday, but a signal about the direction they’re going came when team owner Woody Johnson spoke to reporters at a league meeting in New York on Tuesday. Johnson noted that “it’s hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that we got” and complimented the defense while saying he thinks things would look good “if we could just complete a pass,” the story went on to say.

The Vikings are opening RB Aaron Jones' 21-day practice window.

This means Jones could be ready to go as quickly as Thursday night against the Chargers. However, that's not yet a lock. We'll need to monitor the practice reports to get a better idea. Jones would cut into Mason's workload, and especially be used in the passing game.

Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell says the team put J.J. McCarthy (ankle) through an on-field workout this morning, and while the team is encouraged, "he's just not there" on a short week.

Carson Wentz starts again, Max Brosmer backs him up and McCarthy will be the emergency No. 3.

Kevin O'Connell says if this were a Sunday game, McCarthy might have a chance to go. That would seem to put him on track to be available to start Week 9 against the Lions, Pelissero went on to say.
