Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 4 Targets

I’ll keep it short but it’s a somber week with the recent passing of Mike Tagliere. I remember connecting with him years ago when I first started writing fantasy content. I was nobody, still am, and he was interested in my work. Even chatting with him virtually you could feel the excitement just getting to talk football. He loved our community and he loved his life. Every bit of it. From his family to his work, his relentless appetite for football was (is) an inspiration. We never know where life will take us, but Mike’s steadfast work ethic and balance with his home life is something we can all strive for in our own lives.

I’ll be honest. After the Week 3 column was posted, I thought about Jimmy Garoppolo. From a process standpoint, it made sense. He was at home with a high team total against a defense that had allowed multiple passing touchdowns in consecutive games. But Trey Lance’s usage is and will be unpredictable. I would have (and possibly should have) listed Garoppolo as a deeper play, but SNF highlighted why the 49ers’ passing will be volatile on a weekly basis. The streamers I did recommend did well, though.

Week 3 Streaming Results
Type Player FPTS Rank
Top Play Teddy Bridgewater 11.8 25
Deep Derek Carr 21.2 10
Sam Darnold 25.3 5
Daniel Jones 16.5 20
K.I.T. Kirk Cousins 25.1 6
Justin Fields 3.9 33

The process was correct on Teddy Bridgewater but touchdown variance wasn’t in our favor. A penalty moved Denver from the 12-yard line to the one for Javonte Williams’ short touchdown. An end zone, pass interference penalty set up Melvin Gordon’s 1-yard plunge in the second quarter. The Jets weren’t able to put up any fight so Bridgewater only needed to pass 25 times. He only had nine attempts after they were up by two and a half scores. I’ll account for their passing rate in positive situations moving forward.

I’ll talk about Sam Darnold in a bit. Daniel Jones was the bigger storyline. Or, the lack of news from the Giants’ offense was the real story. Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard left early with hamstring injuries and Saquon Barkley looked hobbled at times. Barkley returned to score the team’s only touchdown. Jones still rushed for 39 yards but it’s hard to generate much through the air if your co-leader in targets is Collin Johnson.
