The Chicago Bears list Israel Idonije and Mark Anderson as co-starters at left defensive end opposite Julius Peppers. But signs point to Idonije getting the first crack against the Lions in the season opener Sunday at Soldier Field.

After Idonije and Anderson alternated with the first team during the first two days of practice this week, Idonije ran with the first team during Friday's abbreviated session while Anderson got a "few'' reps.

"I'm ready,'' Idonije said. "For me, it's all about production. That's everything. You have to make plays and produce.''

Idonije started the final two exhibitions after Anderson started the first two. Anderson notched two sacks, while Idonije had a fumble recovery.

The coaching staff seemed confident Anderson would regain his 12-sack rookie form this season, particularly with Peppers in the fold. Anderson wasn't totally satisfied with his preseason performance but felt he showed enough to deserve the starting job — even though he has been playing with a broken middle finger and a groin pull.

"Yes, I would be disappointed with not starting,'' Anderson said. "But I have to ride with it. I would be disappointed because I'm confident in my game. I'd be disappointed because I feel I worked hard in the offseason and (starting) is what I prepared for.''
