Wes Welker Has Trust Issues About Knee

The moment Wes Welker blew out his left knee on the Reliant Stadium turf last January, the fear was he’d never be the same.

At the midway point this season, the numbers lend some credence to that miserable notion. Through eight games, he hasn’t caught anywhere near as many balls as in years past with the Patriots [team stats], nor is he gaining many yards after he receives a Tom Brady [stats] pass. Those YAC (yards after catch) numbers have long been his forte, as he has always finished first or second in the league since joining the Pats. Today, he stands 30th in the NFL in that category.

Speaking with him privately yesterday after his appearance at the Fells Elementary School, Welker didn’t have any definitive answers for the decline in numbers, nor was he particularly stressed about a perceived lack of production. But one thing seemed pretty evident about his knee: He still doesn’t completely trust it.
