Giants tight end Darren Waller was activated from injured reserve Saturday and will play Sunday against the Saints.

Waller was able to practice this week after having his window to return opened this week. Waller reportedly looked good in practice. He should be right back involved in the passing game for the Giants and add a strong weapon for quarterback Tommy DeVito. Waller is No. 18 on our tight end board this week in what could be a good matchup against Saints.

Bellinger wasn't able to do much with his extended playing time outside of a couple of three-catch, 40-yard performances. Waller should do much more if he's on the field, and should be considered a top-12 option if he is a full participant for the rest of the week.

The Giants placed quarterback Tyrod Taylor and tight end Darren Waller on injured reserve.

Taylor has the rib injury while Walker has the hamstring injury. Tommy DeVito will now be the backup in New York with Daniel Jones making his return from a neck injury this week against the Raiders. For Waller, it’s a tough break with another hamstring injury. Both will now be out at least four weeks. The Giants have their bye in Week 13, so his next game will be, at the earliest, December 11 against the Packers.

Daniel Bellinger is a real potential replacement for any time that Waller misses after he had a few splashes of production during his rookie year prior to an eye injury. This week's tight end position isn't quite desperate enough to consider him, but next week could be a different story.

TE Darren Waller “very frustrating” and “a little bit discouraging” that he’s dealing with another hamstring injury.

Waller said it’s likely going to be “potentially” weeks. The number of weeks he’s not quite sure.

“It may take a little bit.“

So it seems very unlikely he will play Sunday vs. Raiders. Next week vs. Cowboys is also in question.

This was a very quick rule-out for Waller, so he may be missing time. Waller missed time in 2022 as well with a hamstring injury. He was also limited this week because of the hamstring. This is a brutal blow in what has already been a disastrous year for the Giants.

Daniel Bellinger actually strung together some decent fantasy performances in 2022 before an eye injury knocked him out of action for a handful of weeks. Even if Waller misses Week 6, Bellinger will not be a recommended fantasy play, though.

Darren Waller doesn’t anticipate the hamstring limiting him at all:

“Nah, I’m playing,” he said.

The Giants play the Cardinals on Sunday in Arizona.

Is the hamstring any concern long-term or moving forward?

“No, not really.”

Waller said last year’s hamstring injury was much different. What he experienced last week wasn’t even comparable.

Even with the hamstring flare-up, Waller led the Giants in targets (5) in an absolutely moribund performance from the offense, and, particularly the offensive line. Waller should be trusted as a TE1 in lineups moving forward.

The Giants listed WR Wan'Dale Robinson (knee) as doubtful for Sunday's opener vs. Dallas -- and added TE Darren Waller to the injury report with a hamstring. He's questionable.

The Giants' under team total is looking pretty enticing right about now. Presumably, the slot role will be pretty well locked down by Parris Campbell while Robinson is on the mend and offers a reasonable floor for very desperate fantasy managers. This is Waller's first stint on the injury report this week, so hopefully, that is more of a precaution.

It was mostly Parris Campbell working out of the slot, Darius Slayton and Isaiah Hodgins out wide, and Darren Waller all over the field with the first-team offense. That’s in part because Sterling Shepard (knee) and Wan’Dale Robinson (knee) worked on the side as part of their rehab from torn ACLs.

Campbell, who was signed this offseason as a free agent, is destined for a significant role regardless. The Giants think he can do more than be the 68-catch player he was with the Indianapolis Colts last season if he’s healthy in this offense. This spring only validated what they thought they could be getting.

This usage has sent a clear message about third-round rookie Jalin Hyatt, who is "coming along slowly and working primarily with the third-team offense."
