Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson said he didn't know what to expect during the weekend. He didn't know if he would be traded or released or whether he would remain playing for the Vikings.
"I had no idea," Jackson said after today's practice. "I was just expecting anything. My mind was ready for anything. With this league, you can never be too sure about anything. I was pretty much ready to be here. Any of the other 31 teams, I didn't know."
Jackson was widely considered the most likely quarterback on the roster to be the odd man out after Brett Favre signed Aug. 18. But the Vikings opted to keep him, instead releasing John david Booty to meet the 53-man roster deadline Saturday before signing him to the practice squad.
Now Jackson and Sage Rosenfels are faced with the fact that as long as Favre is healthy, they will be either the backup or the third quarterback for every game.
Jackson and Rosenfels have both started games in the NFL, and they believe they can be full-time starters right now, if the circumstances were different.
Jackson said he's taking things one day at a time, and that he knows this will be a different situation for him. But he doesn't doubt his abilities.
