Andy Reid said Patrick Mahomes will throw the ball today and try to get through the individual period during today's practice.

Nobody is buying that Mahomes will play this week, but he continues to get in work and appears likely to return faster than first assumed.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Patrick Mahomes will practice on Wednesday, but Matt Moore will make the “majority” of the team reps.

But when asked, Reid once again didn’t rule out Mahomes for Sunday.

‘‘It would be a stretch for Patrick Mahomes to get there,” HC Andy Reid said of this week’s game against the Packers, via Adam Teicher of ESPN.com.

“I don’t think you put a timeline on this,” Reid said. “You go off how he feels and what the doctors say.”

The Chiefs are one of the rare teams to put their head athletic trainer in front of microphones, and Rick Burkholder said Monday the signs were largely positive. Burkholder said Mahomes’ MRI turned out “as good as we could imagine,” the story said. Over the weekend there were conflicting reports with Ian Rapoport saying more like 3-5 weeks, which would include the team's Week 9 bye, while Adam Schefter reported he could be back before three weeks has passed.

Adam Schefter reports the MRI on Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ knee was “good” and “turned out to be the best-case scenario.”

If the MRI is in fact best-case scenario, Mahomes is looking at missing only three games instead of potentially the rest of the season. The Chiefs play the Packers, Vikings and Titans in that span and will have Matt Moore under center during that time. We can all breathe a huge sigh of relief that it’s only a short absence for one of the most exciting players in the league.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will miss at least three weeks with the knee injury suffered Thursday night against the Broncos.

Rapoport notes Mahomes will have an MRI Friday and the results of that will determine if Mahomes is out for just the three weeks or if he’ll be out longer, which includes the possibility of season-ending surgery. Here’s hoping for the former.

Matt Moore went 10/19 for 117 yards and a touchdown in relief of Mahomes in Kansas City’s 30-6 win in Denver. Over the next three weeks, the Chiefs host the Packers and Vikings and then visit the Titans in Week 9. Everyone in the league is holding their breath Friday, hoping for the best.

NFL Network's James Palmer reports that Patrick Mahomes' ankle injury is probably worse than he's letting on and he considers a legitimate injury that has sapped his ability on the field.

There is no doubt that Mahomes is playing hurt but we still see amazing throws from him even on one good leg. The trouble this week is Mahomes has a quick turn around to play Thursday night and travels to Denver to play one of the hottest pass defenses in the league. If he's on the field, he's a start, but we likely need to temper expectations for Week 7.
