Eagles QB McNabb has broken rib

Eagles QB Donovan Mcnabb left Sunday’s 38-10 season-opening victory over the Panthers midway through the third quarter with a broken rib and didn’t return.

The Eagles announced that McNabb suffered a rib injury soon after he left the game, and coach Andy Reid confirmed the severity of the injury during his postgame press conference.

McNabb was injured with 7:07 remaining in the quarter when a player landed on his back after he crossed the goal line on a 3-yard touchdown run. McNabb was in obvious pain as he stayed down on the field, but he later walked off under his own power. Trainers checked his lower back and ribs on the Eagles’ sideline before McNabb eventually walked off the field under his power to the locker room. He later returned to finish the game on the sideline with his teammates.

McNabb was replaced by backup QB Kevin Kolb. With Michael Vick suspended for the first two games of the season, the Eagles are carrying only two quarterbacks on their active roster.
