After WR A.J. Green went out on the second play of the game, TE Tyler Eifert noticed the Bills began to send more double teams his way. It's something Green has dealt with often in his career and had to fight through several times this season when Eifert was out with an injury the first six games.
"Even A.J. said something like, 'It's not fun, is it?'" Eifert said, laughing. "But I've got to find a way to get open and make plays."
The Bills were effective in stopping Eifert on Sunday, limiting him to only three receptions for 37 yards and no touchdowns.
Eifert's effectiveness isn't in the amount of yards he generates. His usefulness has come in the red zone, as he led the team with 13 touchdowns last season. But even though Eifert is the team's best red-zone threat, the offense has truly belonged to Green since he was drafted in 2011. On the Bengals' best days, they have given defensive coordinators headaches trying to stop them both. However, Eifert said he hasn't been the centerpiece of an offense since his college days at Notre Dame. Now, with the Bengals' go-to weapon out for an unknown amount of time, it's likely Eifert is going to see a lot more double teams come his way. The Bengals best receiving options after him are Brandon LaFell and rookie Tyler Boyd, the story all said.
