Week 7 Revenge Games: 6 Players Out to Torch Their Ex-Teams
This week, I decided to switch from historical revenge to movies, since I've been in movie mode for the last few months, participating in Cinema Saturday each week with my son at the theater. There are some great ones out there right now, but the way.
Revenge movies have been plentiful over the years, so it was tough to nail my favorites, but I did my best and did not put them in any order. Here goes....
- 9 to 5 (1980) - This was Dolly Parton's first film role, and she was also nominated for an Oscar for having written the movie’s theme song of the same name. She stars alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as a trio of office workers who plot revenge against their sexist, egotistical boss.
- The Godfather (1972) - The aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty (Marlon Brando) transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son (Al Pacino). His evolution from a young war vet into a ruthless Mob boss is largely driven by his desire for revenge on the rival mobsters responsible for his wife and brother's deaths.
- Kill Bill (2003-2004) - I lumped these together as one. In the first one, after waking from a four-year coma, a former assassin (Uma Thurman) wreaks vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her. She then continues her quest for vengeance in the second movie, tracking the remaining Deadly Viper assassins and closing in on the man who betrayed her.
- Memento (2000) - Guy Pearce stars as a former insurance investigator who suffers from anterograde amnesia and uses notes and tattoos to hunt down his wife's murderer.
- The Princess Bride (1987) - “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” That's it.
- Rocky IV (1985) - Sylvester Stallone's Rocky takes on Russian boxer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) to avenge the death of his best friend and former competitor Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), whom Drago killed in the ring.
- Thanksgiving (2023) - A frenzied crowd storms the local RightMart superstore in pursuit of Black Friday deals, resulting in the deaths of multiple shoppers. A year goes by, and a vindictive killer sets their sights on making surviving citizens pay for their greed. I won't spoil it since many possibly haven't seen it, but it's twisted and really good if you like horror.
Revenge is always on the minds of those done dirty, and not all NFL players who changed teams were necessarily wronged, but we have to assume some sort of vengeance lies within.
I outlined what I found from 11 years of data in the article Revenge Games: 11 Years of Data on Fantasy Breakouts vs. Former Teams, and this weekly article dives into who’s seeking retribution each week.

Before I get into this week's revengers, let’s look at how Week 6 shook out in half-PPR scoring. Let's hope this week is a better one.
- Jameis Winston QB28 (6.5)
- Kenneth Gainwell: RB47 (2.9)
Week 7 Revenge Seekers
Kenneth Walker (KC) @ Seahawks
You don't need a reason to start Kenneth Walker this week, but he is lining up opposite the team that drafted him in 2022 at pick No. 41 overall. Walker was a Seahawk from 2022 until last season; then he signed with the Chiefs as a free agent in March. He's the RB2 in half-PPR scoring on a per-game basis through six weeks, averaging an impressive 26.2 per contest. No doubt he'd love a solid performance in this one.
Brian Robinson Jr. (ATL) vs. 49ers
Aside from the freak 25.2 output in Week 4, Brian Robinson Jr. hasn't been too fantasy-relevant and is also dealing with a hamstring injury. However, with revenge in the air, perhaps he could get some more volume this week against a San Francisco team he was a part of just last year if you're desperate at RB.
Devin Singletary (NYG) @ Texans
He was a healthy scratch in Weeks 3-5 and had five touches for 33 yards last week against the Saints. Devin Singletary's 31 offensive snaps led the Giants' running backs in Week 6, but that isn't saying much at this point. He was a Texan in 2023, but sadly the retribution factor doesn't vault Singletary into fantasy relevance.
Worth Mentioning: Davante Adams would have a sweet revenge game against the Raiders, but he's on IR.
Other Vengeful Guys Who Aren't In the Conversation but Should at Least Be Mentioned:
- Laquon Treadwell (IND) @ Vikings
- David Moore (CAR) vs. Buccaneers
- Charlie Woerner (ATL) vs. 49ers
