Buy Low, Sell High Week 6: Trade Targets Buy Caleb Williams

Time for another report card, and this one comes with a little humble pie. Christian Watson, who I told you to sell last week, caught six passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns, finishing as the WR2 with 32.3 fantasy points. Michael Wilson, one of my favorite buys, was the WR49. That’s not a great combination. The rest of the list held up better. Blake Corum found the end zone and finished as the RB13, while Ashton Jeanty (RB27) and Jalen Hurts (QB20) both struggled, just as I expected. One week doesn’t make or break any of these calls, and that’s exactly the mindset you should bring to your own trade talks.

Each week this season, I’ll be here to highlight the most notable players to Buy Low or Sell High, using and referencing the powerful tools and data on 4for4.com, including the Trade Evaluator. Don’t make a deal in your league without consulting this tool. Fantasy football managers are a fickle bunch. Sometimes, it only takes one week’s results to make us change how we value a player.

As thrilling as trading can be in fantasy leagues, it can also be really challenging. It’s the one aspect of the game that varies wildly from league to league. Drafting, setting lineups, submitting waiver picks. These are all pretty standard, but not trading. It is dependent on league settings, roster requirements, available players, and even the attitudes of your competitors. That means everything you’re about to read will need to be translated by you to fit your league settings. Do your best to adjust the advice to your own league and then join me for a weekly Discord chat for 4for4 subscribers, talking trades every Wednesday at 11:00 am EST.

As a baseline, this column will assume PPR scoring, passing touchdowns worth four points, and starting rosters with 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, and 1 FLEX, but you can adjust the configurations on the Trade Evaluator tool to fit your league exactly.

Sell High

Davante Adams, WR LAR

On the surface, Adams is having another excellent season. He’s the WR6 overall through five weeks, averaging 19.0 fantasy points per game, and he just scored two touchdowns against Buffalo. At this stage of his career, that’s remarkable.

The context matters, though. Adams’ two biggest games came in Weeks 2 and 3, when Puka Nacua was sidelined. In those two games, Adams averaged 30.1 points per game, including a 39.5-point explosion against the Giants. In the three games Nacua has played, Adams is averaging 11.6 points per game, and last week’s 22.1 points came on just 51 yards, propped up by two short touchdowns. Nacua, meanwhile, has scored 27.7 and 37.7 points in his two games since returning.

There are plenty of reasons to hang on to Adams as well. He finished as the WR9 last season playing alongside Nacua. But he did it by scoring 14 touchdowns on just 60 catches. That’s a tough formula to repeat for a receiver who turns 34 in December. Nacua’s constant injury concerns may be reason enough to not deal away a veteran.

Adams’ trade value is 93, right alongside Jaylen Waddle (91), who you’ll find in the Buy Low section. Given Waddle’s slow start to the season, you could likely trade Adams for Waddle and another useful player. If you want to stay with a proven name, George Kittle (91) or Tee Higgins (96) also fit.
