Fantasy Football Trader's Alley Week 9: Players to Buy, Hold, or Sell

Welcome to the Week 9 edition of Trader's Alley! I'm your weekly tour guide on the bumpy ride that is trading in fantasy football leagues, here to highlight the most notable Buys, Holds, and Sells each week, powered by 4for4's powerful Trade Evaluator tool.

Remember, trading is more of a league- and leaguemates-dependent exercise than anything else in fantasy. What makes a trade "fair" or "feasible" is heavily determined by your league settings, roster constructions, available players, and leaguemate dispositions. So take everything you read here with a grain of salt, and do your best to adjust accordingly! (Or become a 4for4 subscriber of any tier and join the Discord to ask me directly in the weekly Trade Talk AMA on Wednesday evenings!)

This column assumes half-PPR, four-point passing touchdowns, and starting rosters with 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, and 1 FLEX — but you can also change the configurations on the Trade Evaluator tool to fit your league exactly.

Let's get into it.

Buy Derrick Henry

Trade Evaluator: RB12 / 15th overall / 160 Trade Value points

After a second consecutive “good game,” Derrick Henry has climbed his way back into a decent spot in the rankings. He had gone five straight weeks without hitting 11 fantasy points before blasting the Rams for 122 rushing yards in Week 6 and then scoring twice against the Bears in Week 8 (on the other side of the bye). Importantly, Tyler Huntley reminded us what a functional Ravens offense can do for the bell-cow running back, and Lamar Jackson should be back next week against the Dolphins. Not only that, Henry often gets better as the year stretches on, and it seems like Baltimore is on track to do so as well, coming out of their Week 7 bye.

Since the King still hasn’t hit 20 fantasy points in a game since Week 1, you might be able to acquire him at an RB2 price point from a manager who believes he’s lost his mojo. On the contrary, as things start to come together for the Ravens over the next month, Henry could get even more mojo back and be a high-end RB1 down the stretch. Oh, and by the way, he gets the Bengals twice (in Weeks 13 and 15), who are the best matchup in all of fantasy for running backs.

Hold Quinshon Judkins

Trade Evaluator: RB18 / 31st overall / 100 Trade Value points

Quinshon Judkins was a major disappointment in Week 8, due to a third-quarter exit (shoulder injury) following a 3.2-point fantasy day against New England. However, this was a tough Patriots defense. Judkins still dominated the workload, and Cleveland is entering their bye to give the rookie time to heal up. On the other side of the rest week, Judkins has a middling matchup with the Jets before a bright green stretch of juicy opportunities that includes the Ravens, Titans, Bears, and Bills. He’s mostly been a high-end RB2 through a rather difficult start to the season, and has looked like one of the most effective running backs in the game despite playing in an abysmal offense.

Things are likely to get better down the stretch, which means Judkins will have a must-start floor with a legitimate RB1 ceiling rest of the season. Don’t abandon ship off a bad game or a minor injury.
