Fantasy Football Tight End Streaming Week 5

Our first round of bye weeks is already upon us, putting pressure on those streaming the onesie positions. Though the Browns, Chargers, Buccaneers, and Seahawks aren’t flush with high-end tight end options, their week off still strains the availability of options off the waiver wire. Nonetheless, we can still use a matchups-based approach to find worthwhile lineup-fillers ahead of Week 5.

For streaming purposes, 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed (aFPA) is a metric we rely heavily on to determine weekly matchup strength. As the season progresses and more data is available, aFPA becomes more and more reliable, using rolling 10-week data. Targets and efficiency metrics are also considered when choosing weekly streamers.

To provide the advice you can implement, candidates for streaming must be rostered in no more than 40% of Yahoo! fantasy leagues.

Week 4 Recap

Our main TE streamer from last week suffered a concussion on his first (and only) game target, pulling down a reception for one yard. Josiah Deguara and Tucker Kraft would combine for six receptions and 39 yards on six targets in his steed. Sometimes those are the brakes, and we’ll push ahead for Week 5 after taking a decent streaming trip in Week 4, despite our cover boy’s unfortunate injury.

Zach Ertz (Cardinals) vs. Bengals

Zach Ertz delivered another decent performance last week, sliding in as the TE14 on the week and earning double-digit targets for the second time in the young year. Ertz ran the third-most routes for any tight end in the league in Week 4 (Darren Waller, Dallas Goedert) and accrued a 24.4% target share in the process, solidifying his year-long share at the same number: 24.4%.

Is Ertz an exciting play? No, he’s not. Is he king of the under-rostered tight ends in a barren landscape? Yes, he is. Outside of dropping an absolutely brutal would-be touchdown last week, he has created a weekly fantasy floor in an offense that is devoid of many other options, which is not something that many outside the top options can claim. The Cardinals project to be frisky once again (3-point underdogs) against a Bengals team that looks quite lost at the moment, and Ertz is available in 74% of Yahoo leagues.
