5 Overvalued Dynasty Rookies

DynastyLeagueFootball.com does tremendous work and their Average Draft Position tool is a phenomenal resource for all dynasty league players. By using that data as a guide, below are five rookies that, by consensus, are being drafted too high. Pay the price they are currently costing at your own risk.

Dwayne Haskins, Redskins (Consensus 22nd overall)

Here is a little secret: this incoming group of rookies is really quite poor for dynasty reasons and it might be a good idea to trade some of your picks for known commodities or future picks while there is a buzz around these recently drafted players. Because of this, you can understand why Haskins would be going this early in drafts, somewhat by default. Unless you are in a super flex or a two-quarterback league, a quarterback prospect has to be pretty special to go in the top two rounds of a rookie draft. Haskins’ situation in Washington isn’t a bad one at all, but the Redskins’ weapons are highly suspect right now. The other thing here is that Haskins isn’t going to give you anything as a runner and that should be a constant all through his career. If—and this is a huge if—everything hits for Haskins, maybe he could be a Philip Rivers- or Matthew Stafford-like contributor to your fantasy team. While Rivers deserves to go the Hall of Fame someday and Stafford is a fine NFL starting quarterback, they just haven’t been all that valuable in the fantasy world.

Devin Singletary, Bills (Consensus 18th overall)

This one gets a huge “Avoid” in the middle of the second round of your rookie draft. On the surface, it looks like Singletary falls into a great situation. Buffalo has an athletic running quarterback, which always benefits running back production, the Bills just greatly reinforced their offensive line and there is very little in Singletary’s way over the next few years in the Bills’ backfield. But folks, this is fool’s gold. Not only is Singletary on the small side and lacking power, but he isn’t a high-end athlete either. Don’t be surprised if Buffalo finds their true bellcow running back next offseason and Singletary plays the role of complementary back for his entire career. Get excited when you see Singletary’s name come off the board to one of your league mates.

Noah Fant, Broncos (Consensus 12th overall)
