Streaming QBs: Week 3 Targets
We were one stupid timeout away from elite.
Geno Smith, who posted 22.3 fantasy points in Week 2 against Green Bay, would’ve finished with 28 points if his heroic late-game touchdown hadn’t been wiped out by a boneheaded timeout called a split second before the snap.
Geno, whose rushing acumen led to 12.4 fantasy points by itself, was still a fantastic waiver wire grab for anyone using QBBWW this season.
The Jets’ second-year signal caller may not be what Jay Cutler was to the QBBWW system in 2013, but he might be close thanks to his rushing production. Geno, through two weeks, is a top-10 quarterback, and he hasn’t exactly lit the world aflame in those two games.
Jake Locker has never been my favorite streaming candidate because his production is so closely tethered to game script. Without favorable game flow, Locker often tanks, as he did against a terrible Dallas defense in Week 2. He appeared afraid to scramble too, which could be a death knell for any sort of consistent fantasy value from Tennessee’s quarterback.
Take a look at quarterback points totals after two weeks and you’ll see why we stream. Geno and Russell Wilson are ahead of Drew Brees. Josh McCown is a half point behind Colin Kaepernick. Joe Flacco has eight more points than Tom Brady. Things will normalize, but we’ve seen the power of matchups in this young season.
Our Week 2 streamers scored an average of 15.8 fantasy points – around what Matthew Stafford and Drew Brees scored – in a fairly disappointing week. Through two weeks, our QBBWW candidates have averaged 16.3 points, while optimal QBBWW plays have scored 21.7 points.
