Waiver Wire Watch: Week 13

Depending on the format of your league, the regular season probably only lasts another week or two, so for teams still on the playoff bubble, it's crunch time. On the injury front, there were a few minor ailments on our Sunday Night Injury Report, but for the most part, the big names made it through Week 12 relatively healthy. The key RB injury occurred on Thursday, when Kevin Smith went down with a (high?) ankle sprain.

Let's take a look at the top pickups for Week 13:

Dalton continues to headline our list of the best available QBs. He has a semi-tough matchup against the Steelers this week, but he's more trustworthy than any other QB readily available on the waiver wire. Besides, he's had tough matchups the last three weeks (PIT, BAL and CLE) and averaged 271 yards and 1.3 TDs during that span. Imagine what he'll do to the Rams and Cardinals in Weeks 15-16.

Grossman now has two straight 290+ yard, two-TD efforts. He's not worthy of a start against the Jets this week, but with the Patriots, Giants and Vikings to close the season, he should be serviceable down the stretch.

Moore is a bit of a wild card. For every three-TD (fantasy) masterpiece, there seems to be a zero-TD, multiple-turnover debacle. Moore is playing with confidence and has four TDs in his last two games (and seven TDs in his last four). This week, he faces the Raiders, who have struggled against opposing QBs -- most recently, Caleb Hanie, who threw for 254 yards and two scores in Week 12.

Don't trust Orton in the short term (with the Bears & Jets up next), but by Week 15 (vs. the Packers), he may be ready to start in a pinch. If you're all set for the playoffs and would like a decent backup QB, you could do worse than Orton.

We're not in love with the matchup -- the Chiefs are playing better defense of late -- but Hanie continues to look capable when given the opportunity to throw the ball downfield.
