Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles had swelling in knee last week

Spencer Ware is rushing well enough at the moment, so there’s no need to rush Jamaal Charles.

The Chiefs star running back got a single carry, as they work to protect him as he comes back from last year’s knee injury.

“Things were going OK, so I kind of let it ride there,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said, via Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star. “His knee puffed up a little this week, and I’m trying to be as careful as we can with him, . . . and with him in my ear wanting to play.”

Fantasy Impact: 

Swelling in his surgically repaired knee is obviously a concern, but the Chiefs have managed him carefully, with just 12 carries in the three games in which he has appeared. Ware has done a solid job as their lead back, and had 17 carries for 77 yards in yesterday’s win over the Saints. Looks like Ware will at least be a solid fantasy play until Charles' knee situation improves.

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee, questionable) was limited Friday after taking full reps earlier in the week and is questionable for Week 7. Charles apparently has swelling in his knee and is questionable for Sunday. If he sits, Spencer Ware should see a big workload against the Saints with Charcandrick West serving as his primary backup. The Chiefs play early on Sunday.

Packers trade for RB Knile Davis

The Green Bay Packers need to shake something up, so they acquired Knile Davis in a trade with the Chiefs.

It's not the world's sexiest trade, but it is for a big name at a skill position, meaning it raises plenty of eyebrows.

Related players: Eddie Lacy, James Starks, Jamaal Charles, Spencer Ware, Charcandrick West

Fantasy Impact: 

With James Starks apparently out multiple weeks and Eddie Lacy banged up, the Packers needed help at the position. The Pack used Randall Cobb and especially Ty Montgomery out of the backfield last week against Dallas but Lacy was the only active RB for Week 6. Davis can help right away but may not have an immediate fantasy impact until he knows more of the playbook. As for the Chiefs, Davis was behind Charles, Ware and West on the depth chart.

Chiefs could again limit RB Jamaal Charles in Week 7

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles carried the ball nine times in Sunday’s 26-10 win over the Oakland Raiders. That’s seven more times than Charles carried the ball in the Kansas City Chiefs' previous game, a 43-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But it’s not as if the Chiefs took the training wheels off Charles or let him ride, as the veteran running back urged his coaches to do last week.

Charles was plan B for Spencer Ware as the featured back against the Raiders, and Chiefs coach Andy Reid suggested it might be that way again for this Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead Stadium

“Is he ready to carry it every down? I don’t think that’s where we’re at right this minute," Reid said. “But he got more carries than he did against Pittsburgh."

Fantasy Impact: 

As the story said, the Chiefs didn't need Charles in their win over the Raiders. So any kind of lopsided score could mean Charles doesn't get on the field much in any kind of blowout, even as the season goes on. The story said the team feels they can proceed slowly with Charles and likely will, especially with Ware as a more than capable backup.
