Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters Friday that RB Darrell Henderson will start and lead the team in carries. Sony Michel may see more snaps but McVay wants to "get him (Henderson) into the flow of the game after he had few opportunities in the first half of the season opener."
No surprise that Henderson will lead the team in carries as they decide how to proceed with him and Michel going forward. A strong performance Week 2 will keep Henderson in the driver's seat for at least one more week.
Assuming Jones clears waivers, he will have a chance to return at some point this season once his left ankle is healthy. For now, Los Angeles will rely on Henderson (thumb), Sony Michel and Jake Funk at running back.
According to Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, running back Darrell Henderson will still have a big role despite the addition of veteran running back Sony Michel.
McVay offered that the team wanted to bring someone in with big-time game experience when referring to the addition of Sony Michel before adding that "Darrell’s still going to have a very big role. Doesn’t really change the outlook for him." While the addition of Michel certainly dampens the excitement for the talented Memphis product, Henderson was always likely to be involved in some sort of committee with Jake Funk and/or Xavier Jones. Now that Michel is on the roster, the goal will be for the two backs to form a 1-2 punch. Henderson remains a solid RB2 target and is currently our RB3. Michel got a value boost with the move to Los Angeles and is currently our RB44.
Patriots are trading RB Sony Michel to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two late-round conditional draft picks, per sources.
New England gets back two picks, the Rams get needed talent and depth at running back.
Sony Michel joins a backfield lead by Darrell Henderson, and will be fighting for a roster spot and work with Xavier Jones, Jake Funk and Otis Anderson. This is a fresh start for Michel who hasn't seemed to reach his potential in his three years in New England.
