The recent spate of injuries at the position has left the Steelers with David Paulson as their No. 1 tight end, and that is not about to change soon.

The Steelers are not planning to add a tight end other than players such as Michael Palmer and Nathan Overbay to their roster because they plan on getting Heath Miller, Matt Spaeth and David Johnson back at various points this season.

Miller remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list after having offseason surgery to repair three ligament tears in his knee, including the anterior cruciate ligament. The Steelers have not set a timetable for his return, but he appears to be on a schedule similar to the one Rashard Mendenhall was on in 2012 when he came back from offseason ACL surgery.

No one within the organization knows when Heath Miller will be prepared to play this season. Miller, who led the Steelers with 71 receptions last season, tore his ACL, MCL and PCL. He is still mending from reconstructive surgery.

If Miller isn't ready for the season opener against Tennessee at Heinz Field on Sept. 8, then either Matt Spaeth — in his second tour of duty with the Steelers — or second-year tight end David Paulson is expected to fill in until Miller recovers.

Fantasy Impact:

Miller is no spring chicken (30), so it isn't a smart move to count on him to be ready Week 1. He tore three ligaments on Dec. 23, and recovery usually takes a year, despite what Adrian Peterson accomplished last season.

If Steelers TE Heath Miller can't start the season — and that appears to be a strong possibility — the starting tight end is likely to be Matt Spaeth, who is renowned for his blocking but never has caught more than 17 passes in six seasons, four with the Steelers.

Fantasy Impact:

Don't count on Miller being ready for Week 1. He tore his ACL late in the season and is no spring chicken.
