Bears WR Rome Odunze questionable for Week 1

Michael David Smith

Sep 11 · 4:09 PM EDT

Rome Odunze is officially questionable with a calf injury after remaining limited throughout the practice week. The receiver said he is “ready to go,” although Bears head coach Ben Johnson acknowledged the team could exercise caution early in a long season.

Fantasy Impact:

Odunze appears more likely than not to play, but three consecutive limited practices leave some risk of a restricted workload or aggravation. He is a volatile flex at his current ranking. An absence would concentrate Chicago’s passing game around Burden and Loveland, with Raymond, Thomas, and Walker competing for the vacated receiver reps.

Bears WR Rome Odunze limited with calf injury

Ryan Droste

Sep 09 · 7:45 PM EDT

The Bears did not practice on Wednesday, so player participation listed on the injury report is an estimation. Just one player was listed as DNP (did not practice): QB Tyson Bagent (back).

Listed as limited were WR Rome Odunze (calf) and OL Ozzy Trapilo (knee).

Fantasy Impact:

The limited estimate and positive trajectory keep Odunze on track for Sunday, but this is a new soft-tissue injury rather than maintenance related to his foot. An actual limited or full practice Thursday would be reassuring, while a DNP would elevate the concern. Burden and Loveland would be the primary target beneficiaries if Odunze cannot play.

Bears WR Rome Odunze dealing with foot injury

Bears receiver Rome Odunze is dealing with a foot injury, but he may still be able to play in Sunday’s season opener against the Panthers.

Related players: Luther Burden, Kalif Raymond, Zavion Thomas

Fantasy Impact:

The story went on to say that HC Ben Johnson told reporters in his Tuesday press conference that Odunze is “more day-to-day right now” after he left last Thursday’s practice early. He added, “I don’t believe he’ll be out there today, but we’re hopeful he’ll be out there on Sunday,” Johnson said. Johnson also said this is a different foot injury than last season's.

Bears WR Rome Odunze expected to be fine after leaving practice

In the suboptimal category of the Bears final padded practice of the preseason …

WR Rome Odunze left the field with a trainer in the first hour.

RB D’Andre Swift left in the final stages and appeared to be in significant discomfort as he went inside the shed beside Field 3.
Update: Preliminary indications are that Bears WR Rome Odunze should be all good after leaving today’s practice. Bears breaking for the weekend tonight.

Fantasy Impact:

The early reassurance and Odunze’s attempt to continue practicing suggest that this was a minor scare, while it was revealed that Swift just had a cramp. Burden would receive the most meaningful target increase if Odunze were unexpectedly limited.
