Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (foot, doubtful) took limited practice reps all week and is doubtful for Week 3. The doubtful tag means that Garcon is virtually certain to miss Week 3. In Week 2, Aldrick Robinson had a deep pass go off his helmet, while Leonard Hankerson hauled in a long TD and Josh Morgan had the boneheaded penalty towards the end of the game. It's not clear who will fill in for Garcon, though Hankerson seems to have the inside track with his good play against the Rams.

Washington WR Santana Moss' role has changed.

He no longer is the starter, thanks to the arrival of free agents Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan and the anticipated breakout of second-year pro Leonard Hankerson.

This season Moss takes on the role of slot receiver, meaning he will come off the bench for three- and four-receiver formations, and could see time on only half his team’s offensive snaps. But Redskins coaches believe that with the lighter load, the 33-year-old will be more effective.

Redskins wide receiver competition — Leonard Hankerson appeared to have an edge in the battle for the wideout spot opposite Pierre Garcon, but Josh Morgan — after a week on the sideline – had a decent showing in the preseason opener.

Santana Moss looks like the favorite at slot receiver, and then a gang of young players find themselves battling for the final few spots on a crowded receiver corps. Anthony Armstrong (shoulder) is expected to return to action after missing the last week.

Meanwhile Brandon Banks aims to bounce back from a disappointing preseason debut, and Aldrick Robinson and Terrence Austin also aim to catch up.

It has been a solid training camp for Washington Redskins receiver Leonard Hankerson, a second-year pro who has been one of the team’s more consistent pass-catchers in practices.

While free-agent addition Josh Morgan has been plagued by a hamstring injury, Hankerson has made a strong bid thus far for a prominent role in the team’s receiver corps alongside Pierre Garcon and Santana Moss.

“It always can be a whole lot better,” Hankerson said Monday. “But I feel like I’m right there. I feel like I’m getting better. I feel like I’m doing what the coaches ask me. And I feel like I’m taking a step each and every day, and that’s what it’s all about.”
