49ers TE George Kittle will not play Sunday, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Head coach Kyle Shanahan ruled him out after practice.

Fantasy Impact: 

The 49ers will hope Jordan Reed can keep playing well in Kittle's stead. The much-maligned field conditions in New Jersey and the chance of Kittle causing more damage to his injured knee are plenty enough to let the elite tight end miss Week 3.

49ers TE George Kittle is a game-time decision, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. Kittle is likely to be designated with a questionable tag according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Fantasy Impact: 

The 49ers are already short what seems like every player on offense and defense, so a healthy Kittle would be a boon for starting QB Nick Mullens. If Kittle cannot play, Jordan Reed would start.

49ers TE George Kittle (knee) took limited practice reps Wednesday. Per David Lombardi, HC Kyle Shanahan "did hint" that the field conditions at MetLife will play a role in whether or not Kittle will play in Week 3. If he's out, Jordan Reed would be a good option for TE streamers.

49ers Beat: Certain receivers could benefit if QB Nick Mullens plays

Remember, George Kittle set the single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end in a season in which Nick Mullens started the last eight games. Those were mostly run-after-catch yards.

Obviously, Kittle (knee) is iffy for Sunday’s game on MetLife Stadium’s bouncy-house field. If he’s not there, I’d imagine Jordan Reed is a frequent target.

Kendrick Bourne and Dante Pettis also had good production when Mullens was under center in 2018. Mullens also threw to Matt Breida out of the backfield quite a bit, which makes Mullens a potentially good pairing with Jerick McKinnon.

Fantasy Impact: 

Of Bourne’s 487 receiving yards, 296 came when Mullens was the quarterback. Pettis had his best NFL stretch with Mullens throwing to him — 371 of his 467 receiving yards came in the last eight games of 2018, the story said. With RBs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman likely missing Week 3, McKinnon is potentially a nice play this week at RB.
