New HC Adam Gase 'definitely' wants to get WR Kenny Stills more involved

Only six active NFL players have a higher career yards-per-catch average than Kenny Stills (16.5), and Dolphins coach Adam Gase said he “definitely” wants to get him involved more after he was targeted just 63 times last season (compared with 165 for Jarvis Landry).

Stills says that excites him and “the numbers don’t lie” about Gase’s offenses.

But the chemistry must improve with Ryan Tannehill. Though a bunch of Stills’ targets were difficult deep routes (and that must be taken into account with this stat), he caught only 42.8 percent of passes thrown to him, compared to 70.4 for Rishard Matthews (now with Tennessee), 66.7 for Landry, 50.9 for DeVante Parker and 50 for Jordan Cameron.

Stills had only two drops last season, so many of the incomplete passes were errant throws by Tannehill. Gase has been impressed with Stills so far this offseason.

Fantasy Impact: 

With Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker very likely to lead the team in targets, Stills is battling with TE Jordan Cameron and rookie WR Leonte Carroo to be the third option in the passing game.

Dolphins plan to use TE Jordan Cameron 'to his strengths'

One Dolphins official said the past coaching staff didn’t use tight end Jordan Cameron to his strengths and expects that to change.

Fantasy Impact: 

New HC Adam Gase has a history of utilizing his tight ends. Julius Thomas averaged 4.0 catches for 47 yards and 0.89 touchdowns in 27 games under Gase from 2013-14. Martellus Bennett and Zach Miller combined to produce 87 catches for 878 yards and eight touchdowns last season while Gase was the OC for the Bears. Cameron is turning 28 in August and is two seasons removed from his 80-917-7 breakout season in Cleveland. It's possible that he recaptures that magic in a larger role with Gase calling the shots.

New regime sees Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron as 'a great fit'

Dolphins head coach Adam Gase just spoke to the media in Indianapolis and the biggest revelation was that Jordan Cameron is in the team's plans for 2016.

Gase said "the wide out and the tight end group we feel great about."

Well, Cameron is the starting tight end. And Dion Sims is the backup tight end. And that is the core of the tight end group.

Later during his presser, Gase mentioned that the new coaching staff has studied Cameron and he "fits" what the team is going to try to do on offense in 2016.

"Obviously the tight end position is something we've made a living on in this offense over the past three years," Gase said. "So both those guys (including Sims) I really see a great fit as far as what we do."

Fantasy Impact: 

Cameron is a candidate for a bounceback season after disappointing in his first year in Miami. New HC Adam Gase utilized his tight ends heavily while running the offenses in Chicago and Denver.

The Miami Dolphins moved on from Charles Clay as their starting tight end this season and brought in Jordan Cameron during free agency. Cameron showed great potential with the Cleveland Browns but was also unable to stay healthy throughout his first four seasons in the NFL.

He's finally ridded himself of injuries this season, but he hasn't lived up to expectations after signing a two-year, $15 million deal in Miami.

He's caught just 26 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games -- with 10 of those receptions coming in the first three games. Since then, he's caught 16 passes in 9 games and hasn't seen the ball thrown his way much.

Cameron admitted that his role with the Dolphins hasn't been what he expected it to be, and not in a good way.

“My role is a little different than I thought it was going to be,” Cameron said via the Palm Beach Post. “The first two games, I was catching the ball more and they kind of had it evolve after that and they started to get the run game a little more involved. So my role evolved, too.”

Fantasy Impact: 

Part of Cameron's struggles can be attributed to Ryan Tannehill's struggles and the number of talented wideouts the Dolphins have on offense. Tannehill has seemingly taken a step back from last season, with his interceptions increasing and completion percentage decreasing.
