Steelers Beat: 'Keep an eye on Ryan Switzer'

Plenty of eyes were on Smith-Schuster, Moncrief, James Washington and Diontae Johnson, but the guy who could contribute significantly is Switzer from the slot. It’s between Switzer and Eli Rogers for the spot and I can tell you this: Switzer made a lot of plays during the spring, and it doesn’t hurt if the franchise quarterback has taken a liking to you.

Fantasy Impact: 

Ryan Switzer was third in targets among Steelers' WRs with 44 last season, which he grabbed 36 of them for 253 yards and a touchdown. For now, drafters are staying away from both he and Eli Rogers in the slot, but if Switzer continues to shine he could be a secret weapon in best-ball leagues or creep his way into late-round flier territory.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Eli Rogers has been suspended one game as part of the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. He will miss the first week of the NFL regular season.

Fantasy Impact: 

It's a crowded receiver room in Pittsburgh, where Rogers was likely competing with James Washington and Darrius Heyward-Bey for significant snaps and playing time behind Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Prior to the suspension news, Rogers was our No. 168 ranked WR in PPR leagues—trailing both Heyward-Bey (No. 144) and Washington (No. 79).

The biggest question mark at WR for the Steelers, as noted by Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, comes at the slot position.

Yes, JuJu Smith-Schuster could operate from the slot, if the team feels comfortable with rookie second-rounder James Washington in an outside role.

Veteran candidates include Justin Hunter and Darrius Heyward-Bey. Rutter thinks Marcus Tucker, a practice-squad player in 2017, could earn a roster spot specifically to play in the slot.

Eli Rogers, who suffered a torn ACL, is still looking for work. The Steelers could bring him back, and he could earn reps in the three-receiver set.

Fantasy Impact: 

The story puts it best, whoever gets the gig should have favorable matchups, given the attention that will be paid to Brown and Smith-Schuster. Which will put even more pressure on the slot receiver to perform.

Pittsburgh's best weapon has been sidelined at least until the postseason.

Steelers star wideout Antonio Brown suffered a partially torn calf muscle in Pittsburgh's 27-24 loss to the Patriots, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source. While Brown's regular season is over, the wideout's injury won't require surgery and the Steelers hope that he can return for the postseason, Rapoport added.

Fantasy Impact: 

As the story said, QB Ben Roethlisberger went to Bryant and Smith-Schuster in the clutch moments of the game, but he targeted Rogers on the final play of the game, which turned out to be an interception. The Steelers look to be in good shape to at least get a first round bye, which should help Brown's chances to return in the postseason.
