Eagkes RB Miles Sanders (shoulder) is not at practice Wednesday.

Sanders is recovering from a shoulder injury suffered during Sunday’s win against the Bills. This may be just precautionary for now being early in the week but keep tabs on Thursday and Friday. Jordan Howard is in line for more work if Sanders cannot go and Boston Scott scores a touchdown in Week 8.

After the game, Miles Sanders said that X-rays didn’t show anything concerning to the team’s medical staff.

“It’s pretty fine. X-rays were cool,” Sanders said via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I don’t know nothing else yet. But I should be fine, hopefully.”

Other reports say Sanders isn't expected to miss time which means he's on target to play in Week 9 against the Bears. The Birds do have a bye in Week 10, so his injury is something to monitor. If Sanders would be held out, Howard and Scott could see an increased workload.

Sanders busted out a bit this week. He's been productive in the passing game but had a long TD run before getting hurt and not returning. The good news is the Eagles were up late in this game so maybe they didn't want to take the chance and bring him back. Howard and Scott would see significant work in Week 9 vs. the Bears of Sanders has to miss time.

Miles Sanders is averaging just 3.5 yards per carry, which ranks 24th of 30 running backs with at least 50 carries.

But he’s caught 13 passes for 219 yards, the eighth-most receiving yards in the league by a running back. He’s got five catches of 30 yards or more — he had only one in college — and that’s more than every wide receiver in the NFL other than Will Fuller of the Texans and D.J. Chark of the Jaguars.

QB Carson Wentz and Sanders have connected on several wheel routes, and the duo looks like they've been running that play for years. Sanders admits he hasn't shown much in the run game, according to the story, which has left the door open for Howard. But look for Sanders to continue to be used in the passing game at the very least.

Doug Peterson said Jordan Howard will get a higher percentage of the carries moving forward.

With Sproles banged up and considered week-to-week, Howard will seemingly at least eat up those touches. But Howard has just looked to be the better back in the early going and the question really is what took so long to get him more involved. Howard is worth a pickup as a flex play as it sounds like Sanders will still be part of the offense, especially in the passing game. The Birds get a tough matchup at Minnesota next week, keep in mind.

Running backs coach Duce Staley tried to break down the Eagles RB situation:

"It’s predicated on the play but also when you get that feeling,” Staley said. “So as a play-caller, Doug Peterson will get a feeling of the guy that’s doing well, and we all see it. So we may keep that guy in the game — I think you saw that vs. Green Bay. You saw Jordan Howard start to get on a roll. It’s all about the hot hand. Then there’s certain plays that we might want another guy — certain plays are tagged to certain guys."

Of course this doesn't make life easy for fantasy owners. Staley went on to say the plan changes from week-to-week. Against the Packers was the first team the Birds really featured Howard. Howard's carries have increased every week, though, while Sanders is in the 10-13 range since Week 1.

It was his first NFL game, but that didn’t prevent the Eagles from showing that Miles Sanders might simply be their lead back this season.

While his numbers weren’t very good — 11 carries for 25 yards — Sanders did have a 21-yard touchdown called back and showed great burst on a 19-yarder earlier in the game. And he showed off his pass protection by standing up a linebacker against Washington.

The breakdown from this game should show you what the Eagles think about Sanders:

Miles Sanders: 36 snaps (48 percent)
Darren Sproles: 23 snaps (31 percent)
Jordan Howard: 17 snaps (23 percent)
Corey Clement: 3 snaps (4 percent)

It seems surprising because Sproles led the team in yards rushing with 49. Sanders did have TD run called back on a penalty, but it's worth noting that Sanders more than doubled Howard's snaps. The team did ride Sproles for a period in the game but it was Sanders who led the way overall. As the story said, it seems like the Eagles started the season wanting to give Sanders the majority of the workload.
