Through the first five padless days of camp, a few themes have emerged. Specifically, players say the offense is emphasizing a quicker pace, both in terms of taking less time between snaps but also in increasing the number and types of plays that get the ball out of Wilson’s hands more quickly.
Shane Waldron has taken over the offense for the Seahawks. Waldron has brought with him some staples of the Rams offense — notably, running the same play out of multiple formations, and using more presnap motion, each tactic designed to confuse the defense, the story said. The zone read will also remain, the story said.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford slammed his surgically repaired right thumb into a defender’s helmet during a throw Monday, ending his day early and leaving the Rams’ sideline to hold its collective breath.
The Rams had no substantive update on Stafford’s status after practice, but Rams coach Sean McVay said he was hopeful “everything will be OK there.”
“We’ll see,” McVay said. “He’s so tough as it is. Look at what he played through all last year to get the thumb cleaned up. He’s a tough guy. We’ll see what they say and take it one day at a time.”
We first reported this story Monday night and it sounded like there wasn't too much concern. But it's the same thumb Stafford had surgery to repair a partially torn ligament in early March, shortly after the Rams acquired him from the Detroit Lions. We'll continue to update. Wolford took the rest of the first team snaps but Stafford did walk off the field gripping his helmet with his right hand.
Still, overall, the Eagles likely felt pleased by what they saw from Jalen Hurts on Monday. The quarterback has gotten better each day of camp so far, and considering this is his first training camp as the starter, that has to be encouraging for the coaches.
The story said the biggest improvement was Hurts' intermediate throws. That was a change from what reporters have seen so far from him in camp. Hurts has mostly been either checking the ball down or going deep. On Monday, however, Hurts had no issue completing passes in the middle of the field. Hurts sits at 10th in our rankings and should be available around the middle of drafts for owners who want to wait.
