The Saints have officially released TE Jared Cook and TE Josh Hill. The Cook move is procedural, as he was scheduled to be a free agent at the start of the new league year.
Jared Cook will be 34 at the start of the 2021 season and may have some trouble finding a starting gig, but does still have some playmaking abilities. Josh Hill could find work in the blocking department for a team this season, after spending all his eight-year career with the Saints. For now, Adam Trautman assumes the starting role in New Orleans at TE.
Free agent WR Tyrell Williams has signed a one-year, $6.2 million deal with the Detroit Lions. Williams was recently released by the Las Vegas Raiders.
With the Lions wide receiver room in flux, the addition of Williams gives the Lions at least one proven wideout heading into free agency and before the Franchise Tag window closes. Despite a reduction in production each of the past four seasons he has played, the veteran increased his catch percentage and yards per target over that same time period. The Lions as an offense are difficult to get excited about so far this offseason, but there is still time for the new regime to make the team competitive and Williams trustworthy in fantasy.
