Trader's Alley: Week 5 Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold

We’re entering the portion of the fantasy season where trade talks should start heating up. Plenty of players will be looking at an 0-4 or 1-3 record, wanting to make a big move to save their season. Others could be looking to fortify a contending roster for the stretch run. Regardless, it’s prudent to scan rosters and look for trade opportunities to exploit as the league settles into a slightly more predictable form as we learn more about who these teams really are.

Below is my Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold recommendations heading into Week 5. As always, don’t forget to use the 4for4 Trade Evaluator to try and mine even more value out of your moves. And remember, these recommendations aren’t meant to be end-all, be-all decisions on players. I’m simply trying to highlight players who could help you come out ahead in fantasy trades.

Buy Low

WR – Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers offense is a shell of the high-flying unit many fantasy players are accustomed to from years past. But that’s what happens when your team loses its top quarterback (injury), running back (free agency), and wide receiver (trade) in a short span. Nevertheless, there is a bright spot and his name is Diontae Johnson. The rookie third-round pick boasts an early rapport with Mason Rudolph, catching nine of his 12 targets from Rudolph over the last two weeks for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Those 12 targets account for a 22% target share in that span, and Johnson has accounted for 43% and 44% of the team’s air yards in Week 3 and Week 4, respectively. Johnson is a buy-low given the perception of the Steelers offense, so strike while you can if you need wide receiver help.

WR – Julian Edelman, New England Patriots
