Perfect Fantasy Football Draft: 12th in a 12-Team Yahoo Half-PPR League

Drafting right on the turn in 12-team drafts allows you to double-dip right off the bat, pairing a potential top-5 back and top-5 receiver before any of your leaguemates are able to flesh out their plans. Depending on how the draft has fallen, you typically have the choice of one of the precious few workhorse RBs or a WR with the potential to lead the league in target share.

Of course, as the 12th pick, you aren't likely to grab an option that you feel comfortable with finishing as the No. 1 overall option at their position, as many of your league mates have now had. But, with your picks being right next to each other, it's unlikely that you'll get caught up in positional runs further along the draft, and you can rather plan your selections in "pairs."

In this article, I walk through my favorite likely available targets each round based on Yahoo ADP via 4for4’s Multi-Site ADP tool, with a discussion on strategy from the 12 spot.

The 4for4 staff uses the Draft Hero software for all of our leagues. Draft Hero syncs directly to your league and optimizes each pick using projections and value-based rankings from 4for4. Draft Hero lets you customize your draft experience with settings on which rounds you want to draft a position, how many players you want at each position, and players to target or avoid.

My Plan of Attack from the 12th Position

Roster Settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (WR/RB/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DEF, 7 bench spots

  • The good thing about a half-PPR league is the fact that you can begin your draft basically any way you want to. You won't be dug entirely into a hole if you don't have a high-volume pass-catcher right off the bat (like in PPR) or if you miss out on a more RB-heavy approach (like in Standard).
  • I don't often go into drafts with hard and fast rules on who I'm willing to take, but you must do your best not to overreact during the ebbs and flows of drafts. We’ll be waiting a long time between our sets of picks, but that also sets soft parameters on players in the pool as well; there’s no reason to reach 20ish spots for a player because we’re afraid he won’t get back to us, we’ll just need to adjust.
  • The lack of extraneous rules (full PPR, points per first down, TE premium, etc.) in default Yahoo settings allows us the ability to attack Best Player Available (BPA) at a much easier clip.
