My Plan of Attack When Drafting From The 3 Spot
Roster Settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (WR/RB/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DEF, 6 bench spots
It is important to remain flexible during your fantasy drafts, but here’s a general overview of how I’d like to build my roster from the No. 3 spot:
-
First and foremost, I’m not drafting a kicker and defense until my final two picks.
-
In home leagues, I aim to go with an anchor running back approach, but I'm very open to drafting two running backs in the first 3-4 rounds, given the ADP of receivers on ESPN.
-
I want to target quarterbacks with elite rushing floors and will try to pair my QB1 with one pass-catching target.
-
I’m going to look at elite tight ends and quarterbacks in a given draft, but will avoid drafting both in the first four rounds.

Round 1, Pick 3 (3) - WR CeeDee Lamb, Cowboys
Being in a ten-team draft and knowing a few running backs will fall into the late-second and third round that shouldn’t, we start with Lamb here. Even before the Micah Parsons trade, the Cowboys looked like a pass-happy team that would be playing catch-up. Now, that’s even more true. As long as Dak Prescott stays healthy, there’s a good chance that Lamb finishes WR1 on the season.
My Top Alternatives: RB Saquon Barkley, RB Jahmyr Gibbs
Round 2, Pick 8 (18) - RB Bucky Irving, Buccaneers
