Week 6 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Tyreek Hill had a solid game last week, catching 4 passes for 68 yards and finishing with an 82-yard punt return touchdown. Hill continues to be a boom-or-bust candidate this season as his explosive speed makes him a threat to score a long TD in any game.
Hill could struggle to find much room this week in a tough matchup against the Steelers. Pittsburgh has allowed the fewest passing yards in the league this season, which doesn't bode well for Hill.
Still, as we saw last week with his punt return score, Hill is always dangerous. He has a low floor this week, but he should still be viewed as a solid WR2.
Week 5 at Houston Texans
Tyreek Hill has been up-and-down this season with two big games and two less-than-stellar games. Of course, that's kind of what you sign up for with a player like Hill. He's getting solid touches, with 5 receptions in back-to-back weeks, but hasn't broken out a huge play since Week 1.
Hill gets a decent matchup this week against the Texans, although matchups don't impact Hill much. His value comes from being able to break away from the defense, which can happen against anyone. We expect him to get the same volume of touches, which makes him a WR2 with upside.
Week 4 vs. Washington
Tyreek Hill had a bit of a down performance in Week 2, but he bounced back in Week 3 with a strong effort. He caught 5-of-8 targets for 77 yards and finished with a score. He also carried the ball 3 times for 13 rushing yards.
Hill will get a difficult matchup against Washington in Week 4—they have allowed the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing wideouts. In back-to-back weeks, Washington has allowed receivers to catch only 7 passes, which is extremely low for a group.
While it's a tough matchup, we still like Hill this week. He's such an explosive player, he only needs one play to make a difference. He should be viewed as a strong WR2 this week, but there is a chance for an off-week with the poor matchup.
Week 3 at Los Angeles Chargers
Tyreek Hill was held in check last week, only catching 4 passes for 43 yards on 6 targets. He also had 1 carry for 6 yards. The explosive playmaker's five-game streak of having a touchdown of 60+ yards or more came to an end, which was obviously likely to happen. But that stat just shows Hill is worth starting every week due to his big playmaking ability.
He gets a favorable matchup this week as the Chargers have allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing wideouts so far this season. All Hill needs is one big play to make it worth starting him. He should be viewed as a WR2 this week.
Week 2 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Tyreek Hill continued to be a huge playmaker, scoring on a 75-yard touchdown last week. His big play provided a solid stat line of 7 receptions for 133 yards. He also carried the ball twice for 5 yards.
Even if Hill didn't have the long score, the fact he was heavily involved in the offense (he also missed some time due to injury) should encourage owners. But he's proved over and over again that these long plays aren't flukes, as he's had a 60-yard play or longer in five straight games. Expect him to be a strong WR2 play this week against the Eagles.
Week 1 vs. New England Patriots
Tyreek Hill broke out last season as a rookie and has a big hype train for him heading into 2017. The do-it-all player can score on a catch, on a run, or even on a return. He'll get an unwelcome return in Week 1 against the Patriots, however, as New England was pretty tough against wideouts in 2016.
The Pats allowed the eighth-fewest fantasy points to opposing receivers last season, which means the Chiefs have to get creative with Hill. The good news with Hill is he only needs one big play to be worth a start in fantasy. His big-play potential makes him an every-week starter, but beware, because he can also carry a low ceiling.
Hill should be viewed as a WR2 with upside in Week 1.
Fantasy Upside
Tyreek Hill was perhaps the most intriguing rookie from fantasy out of last year’s class. The do-it-all player scored on the ground, through the air, and in the return game. He finished with 860 scrimmage yards and 9 offensive touchdowns in 16 games. While he played all season long, his duties didn’t really increase until mid-season, as he averaged 71 total yards in his final 10 regular season games.
He should have an increased role this year as well, not only because he’s proved himself as a weapon, but because the Chiefs released Jeremy Maclin. The veteran wideout’s departure opens a door for Hill, which is essentially what coach Andy Reid confirmed. When asked about Hill’s average of 26 snaps on offense, Reid said he could potentially double that number.
Fantasy Downside
Even though Reid claims he’ll increase Hill’s load, fantasy owners from last year know how that wasn’t the case a lot of weeks. In Weeks 15 and 16, Hill didn’t have a single catch (although he did score on the ground in both games). Throughout the season, Hill had just seven games with more than 5 targets. He did a lot with those touches as he was very touchdown-dependent most weeks.
Although Hill will be the top receiver in this offense, his body size doesn’t really lend itself to being an outside option. He won’t out-muscle any defender and will have to rely mostly on his speed.
2017 Bottom Line
If Reid stays true to his word and uses Hill more often in 2017, then the speedy receiver has a really high ceiling for this year. He’s a threat to score on every play due to his speed, and the more chances he has, the more likely he is to find the end zone. Hill carries a bit of risk, but he’s an exciting prospect. He should be a strong fantasy WR2 this season.
Divisional Round vs. Pittsburgh
Tyreek Hill had five catches in his last three games, all of which came in Week 17. The Chiefs have been stingy with his touches, but Hill is making the most of it as he scored a touchdown in all three of those games (two rushing, one return).
If Hill is able to get his hands on the ball a lot in this game, then he'd be an elite option. But his limited touches are a bit of a concern.
The last time Hill played the Steelers, he managed to score a touchdown against them. He always has a chance of breaking a big one, and that's why Hill should be viewed as a solid option this week.
Week 17 vs. San Diego
Tyreek Hill has been held without a catch in two straight games, but the speedster is finding other ways to get involved. The Chiefs have giving Hill the ball as a runner, and he's scored a touchdown in consecutive weeks.
It's frustrating to see Hill get such limited touches, but as long he's scoring touchdowns, he'll be a strong fantasy option. He doesn't get a dream matchup this week, but considering his explosiveness he's at least worth a WR3 ranking.
Week 16 vs. Denver
Tyreek Hill oddly finished last week with just one touch, but he made the most of it, going 68 yards to the house on a run. It was his second score on the ground of the season, his first coming against the opponent he faces this week.
Hill's production will rely solely on whether the Chiefs give him the ball or not. He scored three touchdowns (one return) the last time he faced the Broncos, so clearly the matchup is no issue for him. Hill should be viewed as a WR3 with upside this week.
