It's clear that new OC Tony Sparano is high on WR Santonio Holmes.
“I think that Santonio has special ability,” Sparano said on Thursday. “When you’ve been on the other sideline and in the other (locker) room preparing for players like the Jets have… having to figure out how you’re going to handle Dustin Keller, having to figure out how you’re going to handle Santonio Holmes or the running game…. This guy has really special ability. He can catch it and run with it He makes the hard catches. I’ve seen him make some really acrobatic catches. He works very hard at it. The guy wants the football…. The thing that I’ve noticed about Tone right now in my time being around him is that this guy is a competitive guy. He loves to compete. I like that with skill players. I just love the fact that those guys love to compete.”
Holmes, who had 51 receptions for a career-low 654 yards last season, expressed no regrets for how he handled matters down the stretch when he skipped a meeting organized by Mark Sanchez during the final week and got into multiple shouting matches in the huddle with teammates before getting benched by then-offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
Holmes had a very disappointing 2011 due to lack of targets and poor behavior in the locker room. His 100 targets ranked 26th amongst WR1s around the league and he actually trailed Dustin Keller (115) for the most on the team. His Catch % (51.0%) was only better than Greg Little, Brandon Lloyd, Eric Decker and Mike Thomas amongst WR1s, which is surprising given his talent and the somewhat decent QB play of Mark Sanchez (at least when compared to Blaine Gabbert, Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy). He posted a Catch % of 54.7% in 2010 in his first season with the Jets and 57.2% in 2009 with the Steelers. He's going in the 8th or 9th round in early fantasy drafts and -- assuming an increase in targets (with Plaxico Burress gone) and a return to his usual Catch % -- looks to be a good value pick at that point in the draft. Of course, his value would take a nosedive if Tim Tebow takes over at QB.

The Indianapolis Colts have told Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck that they will take him with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft, according to a league source.
It's unclear precisely when the Colts informed Luck, but a league source said the team has known for weeks that Luck would be its pick. His style most closely resembles that of former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, and he is the player Indianapolis wants to rebuild around, the source said.
The Washington Redskins will take Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 pick in the draft, according to league sources.
With much of the drama seemingly removed from the top two picks, the attention turns to what the Minnesota Vikings will do at No. 3. With multiple needs, they could consider moving down to assemble more picks, or they could start to fill those needs by selecting someone such as USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil to protect young quarterback Christian Ponder.
Luck is considered to be as close as a sure thing as there has been at his position in the last decade. He's tough, accurate and has a great grasp of the game. He finished 31-7 as a starter at Stanford. His arm strength is good, but not elite. He's not the athlete that RGIII is, but his 40-yard time (4.67) ranked 4th amongst the 14 QBs that ran at the combine, so he has the speed of a Sam Bradford (4.70) or Tim Tebow (4.72), and has proven capable of making plays outside the pocket. Fantasy-wise, Luck will be a factor immediately, especially if he picks up the pro game as quickly as expected. If he lands with the Colts, he'll have an experienced receiving corps that will feature Reggie Wayne and Austin Collie. Consider him a low-end QB2 with upside, but remember rookie QBs are risky fantasy picks.

Tim Tebow will be at the center of the most well-attended news conference in backup quarterback history Monday. But on Sunday, Jets Coach Rex Ryan opened the door to something more: that Tebow could be used at other positions.
“We’ll see,” Ryan responded with a smile when asked about Tebow’s lining up at a position other than quarterback.
“Mark Sanchez is our No. 1 quarterback, Tim Tebow is our No. 2 quarterback, but he’s also going to do other things for this football team,” Ryan said. “He is a football player, and that’s what I keep wanting to put out there. Let’s not just look at him as a quarterback. I look at him as a football player. Let’s not hear what guys can’t do — let’s talk about what they can do. I see a guy with a lot of ability, and we’re going to do that.”
Tebow has repeatedly said he wants to play quarterback, even though talent evaluators have long believed he may have a better chance of a lengthy career as a multidimensional player, perhaps as an H-back, tight end and running back.
But in a 10-minute interview with a small group of New York-based reporters during the annual N.F.L. meetings, Ryan repeatedly referred to Tebow as a “football player.” That was perhaps an indication that the Jets were thinking about expanding his role under the new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, who used the Wildcat as the Dolphins’ coach.
“I don’t see Tim just holding a clipboard,” Ryan said. “He’s going to be playing for us. There’s no doubt. He’ll have a role. Wildcat. He’ll be a better Wildcat quarterback in the game. Is that his only role? We’ll see what happens.”
It's going to be interesting to see what Ryan has in store for Tebow in 2012. It sounds as if he'll be on the field early and often in one form or another, and may be worth a flier late in fantasy drafts, even as a backup QB.

The New York Jets traded recently signed quarterback Drew Stanton to the Indianapolis Colts, the Jets announced Friday.
Terms of the trade weren't immediately available.
The Jets signed Stanton last Friday to be their No. 2 quarterback, but their plans changed when they completed the trade for Tim Tebow.
Stanton became upset and asked the Jets to trade or release him.
