The Saints have placed RB Mark Ingram on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury. His season is over.

Fantasy Impact: 

C.J. Spiller is the obvious candidate to pick up Ingram's work, but he has only out-touched Tim Hightower 14-to-12 over the last three games. It's likely that the duo would form an uninspiring committee, though Spiller would be worth a pickup in PPR formats if he's sitting on the wire. The Saints may have no choice but to play him. The Saints upcoming schedule is not favorable (TB, DET, JAX).

The New Orleans Saints plan to sign veteran running back Tim Hightower to replace Khiry Robinson, who suffered a season-ending leg injury on Sunday, according to a league source.

Hightower, 29, was the Arizona Cardinals' fifth-round draft pick in 2008 but hasn't played in an NFL game since tearing his ACL on Oct. 23, 2011. He signed with the Saints during the offseason and mounted a comeback attempt in camp.

After making the 53-man roster, Hightower was released one day before the Saints opened the season on Sept. 13 at Arizona. Hightower was already in Phoenix by the time the move was announced and watched the game with Saints coaches in the press box.

Fantasy Impact: 

Robinson was averaging seven carries a game and two catches a game over eight games this season.

Saints RB Tim Hightower (knee, probable) took full practice reps again Friday and is probable for Week 1. Hightower can help in the passing game with C.J. Spiller sidelined, but we’re expecting most of Spiller’s catches to go to Mark Ingram and a few of Ingram’s carries to go to Khiry Robinson.
