Scouting report

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 9, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Pittsburgh

Terrance West had a bad game against the Jets before the bye last week, putting up only 10 yards on eight carries. He’s not an accomplished receiver out of the backfield, which limits his ability to make up for bad games as well. However, this was his first really bad game since taking over as the main starter earlier this season and should be given the chance to deliver against the Steelers this week.

Pittsburgh has been below average against the run this year, giving up 106.7 yards per game and a total of eight rushing touchdowns to opposing teams. Expect West to take advantage and to rebound from a bad performance. He should get a full workload again, which should give him the opportunity for at least solid RB2 numbers in all leagues. His value is a little higher in standard leagues, but he should produce in any format.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 7, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. New York Jets
With all the injuries at the RB position, Terrance West is surprisingly becoming one of the steadier fantasy options. He only average 3.8 yards on 23 carries last week against the Giants, but he had a pair of touchdowns and was even targeted six times in the passing game, catching four balls for 36 receiving yards. West’s solid play should keep him as the starter, even though rumors have indicated rookie Kenneth Dixon has been waiting in the wings for weeks.

West should have another good game against the Jets this week. New York has been a mess from top-to-bottom this season, and they seem to be getting worse. They gave up 171 rushing yards and three touchdowns to the Cardinals on Monday night and expect the Ravens to run the ball early and often against them West should be good for solid RB2 numbers.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 6, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at New York Giants
Terrance West was the lead back again last week for Baltimore, gaining 95 yards on 11 carries. While owners want to see him get more touches than that, he was the primary ball carrier and should continue to at least be the two-down back for the Ravens for as long as he remains productive in that role.

This week, he faces the Giants, who gave up 147 yards on the ground last week but have only given up three rushing touchdowns all year. Expect West to continue to get touches enough to be an RB2 in standard leagues and a borderline RB2 in PPR leagues, but monitor his workload as the season wears on. Dixon lurks and with a change in offensive coordinators, you never know what differences we may see moving forward.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 5, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Washington
Terrance West had a great game against the Raiders last week, putting up 113 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. The best news was that he saw over 80% of the team’s rushing attempts and then the Ravens cut Justin Forsett this week. While rookie Kenneth Dixon and third-down back Javorius Allen are still in the mix, West should be given every opportunity to keep the job.

This week, West should get starter carries against a Washington run defense that has allowed 133 yards per game on the ground to opposing offense and has allowed eight rushing touchdowns so far this season – tied with New Orleans for the most in the league. If West gets another 21 carries, he should be good for solid RB2 numbers this week.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Oakland
Terrance West outperformed Justin Forsett last week against the Jaguars and got three more carries than his counterpart as a result. He still ended up with just 45 yards on ten carries though and remains a risky option while splitting touches and doing very little in the passing game.

West could do well against the Raiders this week if he gets a full workload. The Raiders have allowed the fourth most rushing yards to opposing offenses through the first three weeks of the season. However, with Forsett still lurking, limited work on third down, and the potential return of Kenneth Dixon from injury, there’s a lot of risk associated with West. If Dixon is out, then West might put up low-end RB2 numbers in standard leagues, but it’s probably best to leave the Baltimore backfield alone for now.

Update:
West will get the start against the Raiders with news that Forsett has been benched. It's a great matchup, but West is still a low-end RB2 at best in most leagues due to his ineffectiveness and the likelihood that he won't play on passing downs.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Jacksonville
Terrance West has been getting nearly half of the carries in Baltimore, but he hasn’t been any more effective than starter Justin Forsett has been with his opportunities. He’s averaging only 3.2 yards per carry through two games, and he had only 42 yards on 11 carries against the Browns last week. He was targeted three times in the passing game, but has not demonstrated the ability to catch the ball consistently, giving him limited PPR value.

He has a nice matchup against the Jaguars this week, who gave up 102 yards and a touchdown to Melvin Gordon last Sunday. However, he’ll continue to share touches with Forsett and is unlikely to improve upon his mediocre totals from the past two games. He’s a low-end RB3 at best in most leagues, with a hair more value in TD-only leagues since he’s a more powerful short-yardage runner than Forsett.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 2, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Cleveland

Terrance West split carries with Justin Forsett last week and ended up with 14 touches, including two receptions, for 38 total yards. West runs with more power than Forsett, but he shouldn’t be expected to put up big numbers in the passing game. He does have a chance to get goal line touches if the Ravens can get in that position however.

This week, he has a lot of potential against his former team. The Browns gave up 133 yards and a touchdown on the ground to the Eagles last week and they were third from last in rushing yards allowed in 2015. However, if he continues to split carries, it’s hard to recommend starting him as anything more than a low-end RB3 at this point.
