BAL RB Terrance West - Week 1, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Buffalo
Last year was a forgettable one for Terrance West, but he ran very well in the preseason for the Ravens and was in the running for the starting job until the Ravens dropped and then re-signed Justin Forsett during the past week. West still might wrestle the job away from Forsett and he’s a powerful runner with upside as a lead, two-down back.

This week probably isn’t the right time to start anyone in Baltimore however. Buffalo is only average against the run, but Forsett should still get his touches and Javorius Allen may be the primary back on passing downs, leaving change-of-pace work for West. This situation will probably be an evolving one all year, so each of these players has stash potential, but for now, it’s best to leave West on the bench.

BAL RB Terrance West - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Last year was a forgettable one for Terrance West, as he stared the year with the Titans and ended with the Ravens. He has been very competitive in camp however, and early reports out of Baltimore indicate that he’s been the more impressive of the backs vying for touches in the Ravens backfield. West is a powerful runner who showed some potential in Cleveland as a rookie in 2014. If he earns time, he could be productive.

Fantasy Downside
West has only averaged 3.9 yards per carry over his first two years, and he failed to the find the end last season. He also isn’t much of a receiver, with only 15 career receptions. West is unlikely to win the starting job over Justin Forsett, so he’ll be competing with the versatile Javorius Allen and rookie Kenneth Dixon for a job, and may even need to beat out Lorenzo Taliaferro if the Ravens don’t leave him on the PUP list to start the season.

2016 Bottom Line
West is an intriguing option if he ends up in a lead back role, but he has so much competition for that spot that it’s hard to justify drafting him in most leagues. Larger leagues with enough bench slots to stash a player might be a good place for him, but most owners should just keep an eye on the Baltimore situation and be ready on the waiver wire in case Forsett gets hurt again.

Update:
With Forsett now off the roster, West and Dixon will battle it out for the starting job, and West has to be considered the favorite early in the season because of Dixon's struggles staying healthy. West is now a nice mid-late round option with high upside, especially in standard leagues.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Pittsburgh

Terrance West led the team in carries last week against the Chiefs after rookie Javorius Allen fumbled early in the game. West only had 35 yards on seven carries however and added 11 yards on a pair of receptions. West should go back to his change-of-pace role against the Steelers this week and it’s unlikely that the Ravens will be able to run the ball often enough for him to get more than a half dozen touches. He should remain on waivers in all league formats.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Kansas City

Terrance West got five touches against Seattle last week, but was held to 16 yards against a stout front seven. The Ravens ended up getting routed and had to abandon the run game fairly early on. West should continue to get change-of-pace work in Baltimore behind Javorius Allen, but he’s unlikely to eclipse half a dozen or so touches in a game, making him too risky of a fantasy option to warrant any legit consideration.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 14, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Seattle
Terrance West had eight change-of-pace carries last week against the Dolphins and wound up with 31 yards on the ground. He also had a five yard reception as he served as the primary backup to rookie Javorius Allen for the second straight week. While West should continue to get half a dozen or so touches a game in relief work, his limited touches make him a risky fantasy option, especially this week against a Seattle run defense that has allowed the third least rushing yards to opposing offenses this year.

BAL RB Terrance West - Week 13, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Miami
Terrance West had seven carries for 37 yards last week against the Browns as a change of pace runner behind rookie Javorius Allen. West may get a similar workload this week against a terrible Dolphins run defense, but his lack of versatility limits his upside, and unless Allen looks awful, it’s unlikely that West gets more than 6-8 touches, making him a waiver wire guy in most fantasy leagues.

TEN RB Terrance West - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs Indianapolis
After getting 13 carries in a blowout win two weeks ago, West was on the field for just five snaps last week, getting three carries. There's no real value here.
