Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan raved about WR Santana Moss Wednesday. Shanahan raves about a lot of players, sometimes even when it’s undeserved. But this one was legit as he even called him one of the “premier” slot receivers in the league.

Actually, once Shanahan said Moss had lost 15 pounds that was a good sign. The coaches needed him to regain his speed and he got a little out of shape last season. And then seeing him in the first OTA workout… he just looked quicker.

Per Redskins beat writers John Keim and John Campbell, HC Mike Shanahan said that WR Santana Moss is in "excellent" shape and is 15 lbs. lighter, and that it's highly unlikely Pierre Garcon will play in the slot. Josh Morgan and Leonard Hankerson are stronger candidates to play there.

Fantasy Impact: 

Moss can also play in the slot, but it's not clear what his role will be with the emphasis that the Redskins placed on the receiver position this offseason. Garcon appears to be the only sure bet for playing time at this point.

Redskins beat writer Grant Paulsen thinks the plan is to start Leonard Hankerson opposite Pierre Garcon.

Fantasy Impact: 

Santana Moss is still on the roster and it's hard to see him playing behind Hankerson at this point. Stay tuned.

The Redskins begin the first full day of the new league year with a revamped receiving corps. Pierre Garcon is their new No. 1 receiver. Josh Morgan is expected to push Leonard Hankerson for the other starting spot, with Hankerson coming off hip labrum surgery.

Thursday's moves, however, make it somewhat difficult to see how Santana Moss fits into this new group. He signed a three-year, $15 million deal with Washington last summer, but whether he lasts through the end of it is in doubt.

Fantasy Impact: 

Jabar Gaffney is due the same $2.65m in 2012 as Santana Moss. We'll have to wait and see how this situation shakes out, but for now, Washington looks crowded at wideout.
