MIA RB Knowshon Moreno - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Knowshon Moreno - Week 6 vs. Green Bay

Knowshon Moreno has a chance to return this week, although reports on Thursday may lean towards him not playing. He's apparently uncomfortable wearing an arm brace and his playing status may be determined by whether or not he needs to wear it.

Before his injury, Moreno looked like a great back to have. He ran 24 times in Week 1 for 134 yards and a touchdown. He appeared to be ahead of Lamar Miller, but with his injury the positioning may have changed.

There are a lot of question marks surrounding Moreno this week, making him a risky play. He's at best a flex option in a favorable matchup against Green Bay.

MIA RB Knowshon Moreno - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Knowshon Moreno - Week 2 vs. Buffalo

Heading into Week 1 there was speculation Knowshon Moreno could take over the starting role in Miami ahead of Lamar Miller. It looks like that time has come. Miller fumbled the ball in the second quarter with 7:22 remaining and didn't touch the ball again until 11:35 left in the third quarter.

Moreno was in on 61 percent of the team's offensive snaps while Miller was only in on 38 percent. Moreno gained more yards Miller carrying the ball 24 times for 134 yards (Miller: 11-59 rush, 4-19-1 pass). He was also able to find the endzone for a very productive Week 1.

Moreno heads into a great Week 2 matchup against Buffalo. The Bills struggled against the run last year and gave up 169 total yards to Matt Forte in Week 1. Moreno's downside is that he's still in a timeshare with Miller. He should be viewed as a RB2 following his great season opener.

MIA RB Knowshon Moreno - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Knowshon Moreno - Week 1 vs. New England

Last year in Denver's high-powered offense Knowshon Moreno finished as a top five fantasy back. He's downgraded to a much less powerful offense in Miami, but he still holds some value.

While Lamar Miller is listed on top of the depth chart, Moreno is expected to have a big role in Miami's offense. His value is most noticeable in the passing game. Moreno caught 60 balls last season for 548 yards. Miller has a total of 32 receptions in two seasons.

Moreno is more valuable in PPR formats. His timeshare with Miller should be worrisome and that's why he should be viewed as a RB3 or a flex option against New England.

MIA RB Knowshon Moreno - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Knowshon Moreno was a top five back a year ago for the Denver Broncos. He had nearly 1,600 all-purpose yards and finished with 13 total touchdowns. He was also a PPR dream hauling in 60 receptions.

Fantasy Downside
The Miami Dolphins aren’t the Denver Broncos. Moreno is coming into Miami in a reserve role. He’s expected to spell Lamar Miller during passing downs. He’s also already suffering from injury problems. He missed most of training camp after being placed on the PUP list.

Bottom Line
Don’t expect another huge season from Moreno. He joins a crowded Miami backfield and has already had his knee scoped this offseason. Having said that, he does add value for Miami.

His pass-protection and ball security make him valuable on passing downs. He didn’t lose a single fumble in 2013 despite touching the ball over 300 times. But this is not Moreno’s team. Miller is expected to carry the primary load, making Moreno only worth a late selection.
