CHI RB Khalil Herbert - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Atlanta Falcons

With D'Onta Foreman inactive last week due to a personal matter, so the Bears made Khalil Herbert relevant again. After having 18 total touches in his three previous games, Herbert finished last week with 21 touches for 121 yards and a touchdown. He also played on 51% of the offensive snaps, his highest mark since Week 5 this season. Foreman is expected back this week, which will undoubtedly make this crowded backfield tough to predict in Week 17. To make matters worse, it'll be a tough matchup vs. the Falcons (9th aFPA). Herbert's big game last week might make the Bears trust him a little more, but Foreman and Roschon Johnson being in the mix makes Herbert tough to trust. He's not much more than a low-end RB3/flex option for Week 17.

CHI RB Khalil Herbert - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Arizona Cardinals

With all three running backs in Chicago healthy the past two weeks, it's been a mess of splitting touches between all of them. Not to mention quarterback Justin Fields also getting in the mix as a runner. While the trio's splits have been somewhat confusing, the main takeaway appears to be that Herbert is No. 3 in the rotation. He's played the fewest offensive snaps of all three in the past two games. Herbert is probably safe to cut at this point if you haven't already. We would not play him in Week 16 despite the favorable matchup vs. the Cardinals (32nd aFPA).

CHI RB Khalil Herbert - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Cleveland Browns

Khalil Herbert only had three touches last week, all carries. He also played the fewest offensive snaps among the Bears' three running backs, seeing the field just 12 times (17%). Until we see something different, Herbert should be benched in fantasy moving forward.

CHI RB Khalil Herbert - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Detroit Lions

Khalil Herbert took a back seat to Roschon Johnson the last time the Bears played. Johnson played on 74% of the offensive snaps while Herbert played on just 21%. Johnson also had more touches (15) than Herbert (8). D'Onta Foreman is also hanging around. He was injured for the Bears' last game, but had a bye week to recover. This Bears backfield is a bit of a mess, making it difficult to really trust any of them. Herbert isn't much more than a desperation flex play this week in a somewhat tough matchup against the Lions (11th aFPA).

CHI RB Khalil Herbert - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Minnesota Vikings

Khalil Herbert struggled to much running room last week against a tough Lions defense. But he saw 16 carries, finishing with 35 yards on the ground. He also caught two passes for six yards. The Bears used D'Onta Foreman at the goal line instead of Herbert, and the usage between the two backs was pretty even before Foreman got injured. Foreman's status this week is unknown, but Herbert owners will be hoping Foreman is out. In Week 12, Herbert will face a tough Vikings defense (10th aFPA). He'll likely continue to split carries with Justin Fields and Roschon Johnson, making him a fairly risky play. He should be viewed as an RB3/flex option for Week 12.

CHI RB Khalil Herbert - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Detroit Lions

Khalil Herbert is expected to return to the lineup this week after missing the last five games (ankle/shin). However he'll likely return to a crowded backfield as D'Onta Foreman impressed in Herbert's absence. We also have to factor in Justin Fields' rushing ability as well as Roschon Johnson's snaps. Foreman was impressive as a goal line back while Herbert was out, and could maintain that role even though Herbert is back. We'd imagine the two of them split carries while Johnson sees more third-down/receiving back work. Herbert doesn't draw a great matchup in his return as the Lions are eighth in aFPA to RBs. Herbert should be viewed as a low-end RB3/flex option in Week 11.

CHI RB Khalil Herbert - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Washington Commanders

Khalil Herbert had more rushing yards in Week 4 (103) than he had in the first three games combined (93). He was also involved a receiver, catching four passes for 19 yards and a touchdown. Week 4 also saw the biggest separation in playing time between Herbert and backup Roschon Johnson. Herbert played on 78% of the offensive snaps compared to 22% for Johnson. For context, Herbert's average in the first three games was around 50%. Herbert doesn't draw a great matchup this week as the Commanders have given up the 11th-fewest rush yards to running backs this season. He should be viewed in the RB3/flex range for Week 5.
