Vikings RB Alexander Mattison misses Wednesday practice

Vikings are holding a walk-thru today. Didn't see RB Alexander Mattison during the portion open to reporters. Kevin O'Connell didn't rule out Mattison for Sunday's game but spoke more strongly today than he did Monday about the likelihood of Ty Chandler being their primary RB.

Fantasy Impact: 

A follow-up quote was even more promising for Ty Chandler to continue getting a big load if Mattison misses;

"We're kind of building with the mindset that Ty is going to be a guy we're trying to get the ball to a lot, both in the run and the pass, and if we have Alex that's going to be a huge bonus for the depth and making sure we have our full group available."

Chandler should be an RB1 if he gets anything approaching the 26 (!!) opportunities he earned in Week 15.

Vikings’ HC Kevin O'Connell considers WR Justin Jefferson day-to-day with the chest injury he suffered Sunday vs. the Raiders.

Fantasy Impact: 

It was frustrating for owners who couldn't wait to get Jefferson back in their lineups in Week 14. The good news is the team believes he has a chance to play in Week 15. Hopefully the loss of Jefferson this past week didn't cost his owners a playoff berth. The Vikings play the first game of Saturday's slate, so owners will have plenty of notice about Jefferson's status.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said running back Alexander Mattison suffered a concussion in Sunday's game versus the Saints.

Related players: Myles Gaskin, Ty Chandler, Kene Nwangwu

Fantasy Impact: 

The trend has been players sit out at least week after falling into concussion protocol, so Mattison owners may want to make alternate plans now. To complicate things, Mattison and the Vikings have the Sunday night game at Denver in Week 11. Chandler could see a bulk of the work and scored on a wildcat formation play in Week 10. The team has already signed Gaskin ahead of Week 11. Chandler could make for an interesting pickup this week if he's on your wire. It's a favorable matching against the Broncos.

Cam Akers

Cam Akers suffered Achilles injury in Week 9 win

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters after Sunday's win over the Falcons that running back Cam Akers suffered an Achilles injury.

Fantasy Impact: 

Another such injury for Akers, who made a miraculous recovery two years ago from a July Achilles injury to return at the end of the season and participate in the playoffs. Akers was actually the emergency quarterback behind Josh Dobbs after the injury to starting quarterback Jaren Hall. Based on what we've seen from him and Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Akers should be good for the start of next season, but two Achilles tears is certainly a big concern going forward.
