The Texans are going to sign quarterback Jeff Garcia to replace quarterback Kellen Clemens, who was placed on waivers today.

Garcia, who played for quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp at San Francisco, worked out for the Texans in each of the last two weeks. They wanted two veterans to play behind rookie T.J. Yates. Jake Delhomme was signed last week and was the No. 2 quarterback for Sunday’s 17-10 victory over Atlanta.

The Houston Texans are signing former Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns quarterback Jake Delhomme as their new backup, according to his agent, Rick Smith.

Delhomme will back up rookie quarterback T.J. Yates with Kellen Clemens operating as the third-stringer.

Delhomme led the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance, falling to the New England Patriots.

The Houston Texans are working out retired quarterback Jake Delhomme and veteran Jeff Garcia on Tuesday following the season-ending injury to Matt Leinart.

Delhomme is deciding whether the Houston opportunity is tempting enough to come back to the NFL, the source said. The source said the Texans intend to sign one of the two quarterbacks after Tuesday's workout.

Garcia worked out for the team following starter Matt Schaub's season-ending foot injury last week but Houston decided to sign Kellen Clemens instead.

RB Tim Hightower Traded to Washington

The Arizona Cardinals are trading RB Tim Hightower to Washington for a conditional late-round pick based on playing time, along with DE Vonnie Holliday.

Fantasy Impact: 

After playing with Derek Anderson last season, Hightower won't notice much difference with John Beck, Rex Grossman, and Kellen Clemens. Hightower will battle Ryan Torain and rookies Roy Helu and Evan Royster for playing time. Given that Mike Shanahan has often employed a merry-go-round approach in the backfield, Hightower could find some playing time. Right now, he's probably no more than a late round flyer in most fantasy leagues.
