Scouting report

IND WR Josh Downs - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Josh Downs was targeted nine times last week and caught six balls, but wound up with just 39 yards as the Colts were beaten badly by the Atlanta Falcons. Downs has 93 targets on the year, but he’s averaging just 44.7 yards per game and has found the end zone only twice all season. It’s hard to trust him, even if Michael Pittman is out again, and fantasy managers should leave him on waivers for championship week.

IND WR Josh Downs - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Atlanta Falcons

Josh Downs had three catches for 19 yards last week against the Steelers. He’s been wildly inconsistent and mostly unproductive from a fantasy perspective this season, but he gets enough targets to warrant consideration. With Michael Pittman likely out this week with a concussion, Downs could benefit from additional targets against the Falcons, who rank 15th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. Still, considering him any more than a risky WR3 is too much to hope for during the fantasy playoffs.

IND WR Josh Downs - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Josh Downs caught three balls for 32 yards last week against the Bengals. He continues to be a part of the offense, but that hasn’t translated into significant fantasy production very often this season. He hasn’t found the end zone since late-October, and he hasn’t eclipsed 43 receiving yards in any of his last five games. Keep him on the bench this week against the Steelers.

IND WR Josh Downs - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Cincinnati Bengals

Josh Downs struggled last week, catching just three balls for 14 yards in a win over the Titans. Downs has put up some quality numbers during this rookie season, but he’s been mostly underwhelming as a fantasy option. He hasn’t had double-digit fantasy points in any of his last four games and still has only two touchdowns on the season.

This week, Downs faces a Cincinnati defense that ranks 24th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. Downs is too inconsistent to trust, and while he has some upside in a nice matchup, it’s hard to recommend starting him. We have him ranked as a desperation option in deep leagues at best. Look elsewhere if possible.

IND WR Josh Downs - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Tennessee Titans

Josh Downs caught five balls last week for 43 yards. He was targeted 13 times on the day as the Colts took down the Buccaneers and kept their playoff hopes alive. Downs has been very inconsistent in his fantasy production this year, and he’s now four games removed from his last touchdown. However, the team is feeding him targets and he’s worth rostering in PPR formats.

This week, Downs faces a Tennessee defense that ranks 23rd in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. In a nice matchup, with a steady stream of targets headed his way, Downs is worth considering as a quality WR3 option this week, especially in PPR formats.

IND WR Josh Downs - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Josh Downs was at less than 100% health against the Patriots before the bye last week, questionable to enter the game, and finished with two catches and 40 yards. Downs has struggled since his Week 7 breakout performance against the Browns, and he may be too volatile for steady fantasy production in a middling Colts offense.

This week, Downs has a nice matchup against a Tampa Bay defense that ranks 29th in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. Downs hasn’t been consistent enough to be a must-start, but this is a great opportunity for the rookie slot receiver, and fantasy managers can consider him a quality WR3 option against a vulnerable secondary.

IND WR Josh Downs - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Carolina Panthers

Josh Downs had seven catches on nine targets for 72 yards last week in a loss to the Saints. Downs has at least six targets in four straight games and is clearly the number two option in the passing game, with a nice rapport with quarterback Gardner Minshew.

This week, Downs has a tough matchup against a Carolina defense that ranks second in aFPA to opposing wide receivers. Downs is still a bit volatile, but with his propensity to acquire targets, it’s worth considering him as a WR3 or flex option this week.
