Brandon Weeden has earned another shot in Houston after leading the Texans to a pair of key victories in the AFC South race last December.

The Texans re-signed Weeden, the team announced on Friday. The new deal is for $4 million over two years, NFL Media's Rand Getlin reported, via a source with direct knowledge of the contract.

Claimed off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys in mid-November, Weeden relieved an injured T.J. Yates in Week 15, tossing a touchdown to rookie Jaelen Strong to push the Texans past the Colts in a crucial battle for control of the division. A week later, he accounted for three touchdowns in a 34-6 rout over the Titans.

Texans WR Jaelen Strong arrested for marijuana possession

A Houston Texans wide receiver was arrested in Scottsdale for marijuana possession over the weekend.

Jaelen Strong, who played for Arizona State University, was arrested Sunday before midnight while riding in a black Maserati near 5th Avenue and Drinkwater Boulevard.

A heavy smell of marijuana was coming from inside the car and Strong admitted to having marijuana without a medical card. He gave police a cigar box with three marijuana cigarettes inside.

Fantasy Impact: 

The Texans are looking for a long-term answer opposite DeAndre Hopkins, and while Strong flashed during his rookie year, his offseason is not off to a good start.

Texans WR Nate Washington (hip, probable) took limited practice reps again Friday and is probable for Week 18. The probable tag means that Washington is all but certain to face the Chiefs. His presence limits the upside of Cecil Shorts and Jaelen Strong.

Texans WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) took limited practice reps Wednesday. With Nate Washington iffy, Shorts’ availability will be key. If both players are out, Jaelen Strong would be a Sneaky Start as the likely starter opposite DeAndre Hopkins. Strong should play quite a bit if either Washington or Shorts is sidelined.
