Draft note
by John Paulsen
Renfrow is coming off of his breakout year (103-1,038-9 on 128 targets) after a pair of 600+ yard seasons to start his career. His targets are likely to take a hit due to the arrival of Davante Adams and a likely healthier season from Darren Waller. Last season, Renfrow led the team with 128 targets, while Waller checked in with 93 in 11 games. Zay Jones was third in targets with 70. If Waller returns to normal levels (117 in 2019 and 145 in 2020) and Adams sees around 10 targets per game as he did in Green Bay, there may not be 100+ targets available for Renfrow. His ADP of WR39 seems reasonable given these circumstances.

LV WR Hunter Renfrow - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
Hunter Renfrow had a career-year in 2021, leading the Raiders with 103 catches on 128 targets for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns. He led the team in every major receiving category and expanded his repertoire from move-the-chains slot work to full-time target hog. Renfrow is shifty and finds space in zone defenses well. He has the trust of quarterback Derek Carr and should continue to get plenty of targets, especially on third downs.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Renfrow benefited greatly from the lack of other receiving options in Las Vegas last year. Zay Jones was the team’s second-best wide receiver and Darren Waller was limited to just 11 games. With DaVante Adams now in town, Renfrow may go back to his previous role as a chain-mover only. In 2019 and 2020, Renfrow had 71 and 77 targets, respectively, averaged 630.5 yards, and scored a total of just six touchdowns. Those numbers seem more likely with the addition of Adams and a healthy Waller back in play.

2022 Bottom Line
Renfrow in the seventh round seems a little rich considering his likely decrease in role this year. He’s being drafted ahead of guys like Drake London and Rashod Bateman, who both seem to have clearer paths to triple-digit targets. He’s not a bad option in PPR formats as a low-risk WR3 in your lineup, but fantasy managers should look for a little more upside in the middle rounds of the draft than Renfrow will provide.
