The Ravens have added a big-bodied pass-catching tight end, and possible red-zone threat, by signing 2013 second-round pick Gavin Escobar.
Baltimore released offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom, who bounced off and on the roster last week, to make room on the 53-man roster.
Escobar is a 6-foot-6, 260-pounder who spent the last four years with the Dallas Cowboys, seeing sparse action behind veteran Pro Bowler Jason Witten.
Escobar was a big-time receiving threat in college at San Diego State, and could help bolster Baltimore’s red-zone offense.
The Ravens were light at tight end this week after Maxx Williams re-injured his ankle. Benjamin Watson has 29 receptions for 214 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nick Boyle has 14 catches for 109 yards and Vince Mayle has two rushing attempts, including one for a touchdown.

Receiving tight end Gavin Escobar never truly caught on during four seasons in Dallas.
He found a fresh start on Friday.
The former Cowboys second-round pick will sign a one-year deal with the Chiefs, Adam Caplan of ESPN reported. Escobar caught fewer than 10 passes in each of his years with Dallas.
Kelce is coming off shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready for the start of camp. Escobar was thought to be the successor to Jason Witten in Dallas and is a former second round draft pick, ironically picked ahead of Kelce and Jordan Reed.

On Dec. 19, 2015, Gavin Escobar tore his Achilles against the New York Jets. He had surgery three days later.
Seven-plus months after the surgery, Escobar was able to demonstrate speed and put tension on the leg at the very end in what might have been the most impressive training-camp play he has had since joining the Cowboys as a second-round pick in 2013.
Escobar is still behind Jason Witten, obviously, but last year was supposed to start getting more involved in the passing game. If he continues to progress, that could still happen this year and may take away from Witten's fantasy value . However we still have Witten as a TE2 option.
