Newton: Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) 'getting better'

During an appearance on WEEI Monday, quarterback Cam Newton offered no hints about when Edelman might be back but said that Julian Edelman’s condition has been improving.

“I can confirm he’s getting better,” Newton said. “He’s doing well. For him to be everything that he is — and I know he may be listening or he may be having his people listen — he’s good, man. Just to see him in good spirits and knowing that we’re doing our job as a team so when he comes back, it’s evident that he’ll have help at that position.”

Fantasy Impact: 

The Patriots have won their last two games and their signs of offensive life could get a boost from Edelman. Edelman has missed the last three games after having knee surgery and is eligible to come off of injured reserve as soon as this week, the story said.

Patriots QB Cam Newton feeling aftereffects on hit to neck

During an appearance on WEEI on Tuesday morning, Cam Newton said his neck is still feeling the aftereffects of the shot that he took.

“My neck is only working at a degree angle that shuts off the degrees to one side,” Newton said. “My eye muscles are getting a lot of work in today. . . . I told the guys on the sideline, ‘That’s my fault and I deserved it.'”

Fantasy Impact: 

Newton was well enough to remain in the game and ran for the game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it sounds like the effects of the hit will be lingering for a bit, the story said. Jet safety Ashtyn Davis had a hit to his neck area that drew a penalty for roughing the passer.

After a miserable day that included three interceptions and just 98 passing yards, the Patriots have benched QB Cam Newton in favor of Jarrett Stidham.

Fantasy Impact: 

The 49ers rattled Newton all day and it was easily the worst performance of the season for Newton as the Patriots are headed toward a 2-4 start, being down 33-6.

Patriots starting quarterback Cam Newton will practice Thursday after missing time due to testing positive for COVID-19.

Fantasy Impact: 

This is huge news for the Patriots as they will likely escape their COVID outbreak only missing Newton for one game. Newton's return is an instant upgrade to the fantasy prospects of anyone associated with the New England offense as Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer looked disastrous in their time on the field. So long as Newton is cleared to play before this weekend, lock him into lineups as a QB1.
