With Nate Sudfeld out with a broken wrist and Cody Kessler suffering a concussion, the Eagles badly needed an extra backup quarterback, at least to get them through the preseason, with rookie Clayton Thorson the only available quarterback behind Carson Wentz, who still may be held out during the preseason. McCown comes out of his short-lived retirement (he was just hired by ESPN in June) to back up Wentz and likely get some first-team reps during the Eagles' regular-season dress rehearsal this week against the Ravens. Sudfeld and Kessler aren't expected to miss too much time so it will be interesting to see how the Eagles carry the quarterbacks when all are healthy. Miller simply never panned out due to injuries and lack of production after signing with the Eagles' practice squad in 2018.
There’s certainly reason to be concerned about Alshon Jeffery. He told Jen Vrentas of Sports Illustrated after the game Thursday night: “Some days I feel great, and some days ... a shoulder injury is pretty tough,” adding that he’s still a few weeks away from getting back on the field.
The Eagles know they need help at the position. They recently signed Miller to the practice squad but reports say he could get a shot sooner than later. Agholor is the team's top WR but only had a line of 8-33-0 as Nick Foles and the offense struggled in Week 1. Carter played 53 snaps but only caught one pass last week.
“He’s in the long mold of those Red Raiders,” Texans receivers coach John Perry said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “He’s done a good job. He’s working hard. He shows up every day. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do. If he continues to do that, I can see him moving forward.”
Miller is said to be "on the right path" after offseason workouts, however, he hasn't been able to stay on the field, which gives Coutee a solid chance to play a significant fantasy role this year. Keep his name on your radar.
