Bucs activate RB Charles Sims

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are welcoming running back Charles Sims to the backfield committee.

The team activated the rookie from the injured reserve-designated to return list Saturday. It is uncertain if he will play Sunday.

With Doug Martin doubtful due to an ankle injury, Sims could share some of the load with Bobby Rainey, who will likely get most of the backfield work as the team eases the rookie back into game shape.

Fantasy Impact: 

The story goes on to say the Bucs lavishly glowed about Sims' potential during the offseason before the running back suffered an ankle injury that required surgery. This was pretty much expected news all week and Sims was a popular pickup for owners needing help at RB. Rainey shapes up to be the better play, and we figure Sims in the 10-12 range for touches. It's a very good matchup, but both backs are a bit tough to trust given the Tampa offense.

Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (ankle, doubtful) missed practice all week and is doubtful for Week 9. Martin will very likely sit, allowing the team to get a look at Charles Sims, who is a good bet to be active in Week 9. (We will know on Saturday if the team activates him from the designated-for-return list.) Bobby Rainey would figure to get a majority of the touches with Sims in line for 10-12 touches if things go to plan.

Buccaneers beat writer Greg Auman predicts 10-plus touches for RB Charles Sims in his first game back.

Fantasy Impact: 

Doug Martin is nursing an ankle injury and the current regime in Tampa has more invested in Sims than in any running back on the roster. He's a real threat to take over feature back duties given Martin's production (2.9 YPC) and Bobby Rainey's ball security problems this season. Sims averaged 21.1 touches per game as a senior at West Virginia. We're expecting Sims and Rainey to form a committee in a nice matchup against the Browns if Martin is sidelined.

Tampa bay RB Doug Martin suffered an ankle injury.

Fantasy Impact: 

He did not return to the game and Bobby Rainey took over. Martin was also in the news concerning trade rumors, however he continues to get banged up and his latest injury certainly won't help his value. However, coming into Sunday, teams were at least interested and the Bucs are listening. Rainey seems to be a better option but the Bucs offense is a struggle at times. Rainey did catch six passes today for 41 yards so he's at least a factor in the passing game.
