TEN WR A.J. Brown - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

2021 Fantasy Upside
It's only taken two seasons for A.J. Brown to establish himself as one of the premier wide receivers in the NFL. Brown suffered an injury scare early last season but fought through his knee issues to finish seventh amongst wide receivers in fantasy points per game (17.2). The beautiful thing about Brown's fantasy profile is that he does not rely on volume to produce. Brown finished 30th in targets and 27th in receptions amongst wide receivers last season but managed to finish second in yards per route run (2.76), fifth in touchdowns (11), and 10th in yards per target (10.1). While Brown may never see the massive target numbers of other top-tier wideouts, few players in the league do more with the touches they do receive than the Ole Miss product. Despite Brown's emergence in recent seasons, it will be difficult for defenses to focus on him with the offseason addition of fellow alpha receiver Julio Jones in Tennessee. While the Jones addition caps Brown's target ceiling to some extent, that could be offset by more favorable coverages due to Jones's presence on the other side of the formation. Even with Jones in the mix, the Titans' target distribution projects to be narrow and there should be plenty of opportunity for both Brown and Jones to put up big numbers.

2021 Fantasy Downside
Prior to the Jones addition, Brown had a legitimate argument to be ranked as the top overall wideout in fantasy due to massive volume projections caused by a complete lack of target competition. Having to compete with Jones puts a damper on those projections, meaning Brown's ceiling is necessarily lower with another top-end wideout in the mix competing for Tannehill's targets. Brown also had surgery on both knees in January to address the issues that limited him last season. Current reports expect him to be ready for training camp but his health will be worth monitoring in the coming weeks.

2021 Bottom Line
While the focus in Tennessee has been on the addition of Jones, the Titans also lost Corey Davis and Jonnu Smith in free agency. The narrative surrounding the Jones trade has been that it will hurt Brown's ceiling, but Brown was already poised to have a dominant target share before the trade and should still get plenty of attention from Tannehill in what has been an efficient passing offense. Brown's elite downfield production and projected target share still add up to WR1 numbers even if he is no longer being considered for the title of top receiver in fantasy.

TEN WR A.J. Brown - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Houston Texans
With Ryan Tannehill throwing for just 121 yards in the loss at Green Bay last week, A.J. Brown was limited to four grabs for 43 yards. He posted 58 yards and two scores in the win versus Houston earlier this season, so be sure he remains a part of your starting lineup.

TEN WR A.J. Brown - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Green Bay Packers
Even though A.J. Brown registered only 44 yards in the win over the Lions last week, he once again was in the end zone. In 12 games Brown has reached double digits in TDs and is 119 yards away from what would be his second consecutive 1,000-yard season. The Pack have been solid on defense this season but there’s no way you’re leaving Brown on your bench.

TEN WR A.J. Brown - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Detroit Lions
In the win against the Jaguars last week, A.J. Brown led the Titans with seven receptions for 112 yards and a TD off a flea-flicker play. Despite the run-heavy offense featuring Derrick Henry Brown is averaging 76 yards per game and has scored in eight of the 11 games in which he’s appeared. He has a nice matchup at home versus a suspect Lions pass defense.

TEN WR A.J. Brown - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Jacksonville Jaguars
With Ryan Tannehill throwing for nearly 400 yards versus Cleveland last week, A.J. Brown caught four passes for 87 yards. While Brown has scored eight times in the 10 games he’s played in this season, he’s been held to under 100 yards in four straight. Brown missed the first meeting against the Jaguars in September but remains a top fantasy WR.

TEN WR A.J. Brown - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Cleveland Browns
In the win against the Colts last week, A.J. Brown snagged four passes for 98 yards, including a 69-yard score. To top things off he also returned an onside kick attempt 42 yards for a touchdown. Mainly due to Ryan Tannehill not needing to throw often Brown has failed to reach the century mark in three straight but continues to find the end zone. Against a below-average Cleveland pass defense, he’s again a top WR play.

TEN WR A.J. Brown - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Indianapolis Colts
What a beast A.J. Brown was on the go-ahead fourth-quarter TD in Baltimore last week. In the win, he collected four receptions for 62 yards and his seventh score in eight games this season. Only twice in ’20 has he been held out of the end zone, with one of those occurring only a couple of weeks ago when the Colts held Brown to just a 21-yard reception. You know he’ll be a bigger factor in the rematch.
