Quarterback Brett Favre has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for the crackback block he threw on Monday night in the Vikings’ preseason victory at Houston.

“On a run play, as his opponent was moving toward the ball carrier, Favre struck him below the waist area,” the NFL said in a statement announcing the fine.

The play came in the third quarter as Favre was split out wide left as the Vikings lined up in their version of the Wildcat. Percy Harvin took the snap and ran toward Favre’s side. The veteran quarterback, already on the ground, threw the block on Texans safety Eugene Wilson. Wilson had to leave the game but is believed to be OK. Favre’s block resulted in a 15-yard penalty.
