The Patriots may have lost another likely starter to a season-ending surgery.

Two sources close to the situation told the Boston Herald that offensive lineman Nick Kaczur has already undergone back surgery. Those involved seriously believe his 2010 season may be over before it started.

Kaczur, the replacement for starter Logan Mankins, who is holding out, left the first practice on the second day of camp and never returned.

Reportedly there was a bulging disk hitting a nerve that was causing serious pain. They tried rest. Now, he’s had surgery, which occurred in the last week or 10 days.

There has been no final determination on his season, and it is believed the team is still waiting to see if the pain subsides. But no one is optimistic. They believe it all may be over for Kaczur in 2010.

If, as expected, it means his season is over, another starter is gone. Defensive end Ty Warren is also out for the season after hip surgery. Dan Connolly has been filling in rather ably for Kaczur, though he is a step down from Mankins.

But this turns even more attention to Mankins, the Pro Bowler and starter who has stayed home from camp in a contract dispute.

Is this what accelerates a potential resolution for Mankins and the Patriots?
